Enjoying the game from a great view
One of the most charming things about a visit to MODERN DTSB is the fact that 8 out of 10 people DT SB are not there by choice.. The other 2 are either cops or vagrants, (read article in link below) so generally avoid making any direct eye contact with anyone on the streets, and you'll fit right in. Just remember the BRAND NEW County Jail is just down the street, and they have plenty of room and lots of FRIENDLY people there.
A wonderful experience. The Izaak Walton League is a conservation group that owns a park on the north side of town. It is a great place to fish and hike. They also have an archery range and many other outdoor activities. I don't believe IWL membership is needed to enter. If you are in South Bend for a few days and need some outdoors time, IWL is a great place to start.
Each time we stop in South Bend we never seem to have any extra time to really see Notre Dame - but we do take a quick drive through the area.
I'm not a big football fan but Grandpa is - so we had to make sure to get a few photos just for him.
I was born here. But other than that, I never spent much time here. Most of my family is from Michigan so all the men in my family hate Notre Dame. I would love to have the chance to go to a football game some time, and experience the "rudy" experience. The most I have done at Notre Dame was ice skate. The funny thing about South Bend is that most people call this city Notre Dame, Indiana. Or they don't have any clue what city Notre Dame is located. Other than the football, we are famous for the Studebaker cars. By the way there is are musuems dedicated to both famous items. I think South Bend is a pretty decent place to visit for a day if your planning a football game and there are nice places to eat.
South Bend, Indiana'a 4th largest city, is located about 1 1/2 hrs east of Chicago. The city is in need of faster economical growth. Suburban Mishawaka has outgrown South Bend when it comes to shopping destinations. South Bend is currently losing its two story mall, Scottsdale to a new town center format. The floorplan for the new center is horrible and seems to be just another strip center. South Bend is not small, but it doesn't seem to be look towards growing any time soon.
