After all the hype I keep hearing of how Notre Dame Football home games draw in THOUSANDS of visitors and add MILLIONS of dollars to the local economy, I decided to go take in a home game.

I went out for a little walk at "half time"

Hmm.. WHERE ARE ALL THE PEOPLE?

By half time most ND fans had already packed up and left..

Air Force beat Notre Dame 41-24 for its worst loss to a service academy since 1963 Bring a cooler of beer and your camera and see if you can find the THOUSANDS of people that a ND Football home game attract.

The Menno-Hof in Shipshewana

Located in Shipshewana, IN (east of South Bend) on Indiana State Road 5, the Menno-Hof is the Mennonite Anabaptist Interpretive Center, where you can learn about the faith and life of Mennonites and Amish in north-central Indiana, one of the world's largest Anabaptist communities. Admission for adults is $5.00. The guided tour lasts about an hour.

This large museum, located behind the Oliver Mansion, features numerous exhibits and can easily fill up the better part of a day. Highlights include house tours of the Oliver Mansion (Copshaholm, named for the village where James Oliver was born), a permanent exhibit about the famed All Americans Girls Professional Baseball League, a tour of a typical 1920s worker's home and lots of local history especially pertaining to major South Bend industries and the University of Notre Dame.

"On The Road Again -"

While traveling from North Dakota to NYC in a car for medical trips, South Bend, IN always seems like a nice midway stopping point.

It gets us through Chicago and ready to head out towards Ohio the next day.

"Take time to see the Potawatomi Zoo"

When passing through South Bend don't forget to make time to stop off at the zoo.

"And drive by Notre Dame before heading out."

I live here and have for 15 years. Still feel a bit like a traveler. A good friend once said that living in a town with Notre Dame is a bit like living in a town with a foreign embassy. This seems about right.

That said, South Bend has some interesting places to see, enjoyable people to meet, fascinating small-town politics, great atmosphere during fall football, and few places that must be avoided (like the plague).
