Converted monastery

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 1, 2008

Historic abbey that was converted to a 19 guest room hotel. It has banquet facilities, dining rooms and a small chapel. My friend had her wedding, reception and her wedding night there. The rooms are tastefully decorated. Facility has outdoor pool, very small fitness facility and breakfast is usually included.

Unique Quality: It was a monastery built in 1914-1917 for the carmelite nuns. Then it was taken over by the Franciscan monks but were unable to renovate the abbey so it was sold to a private owner. Romanesque structure of gold mottled brick with cream-white Bedford stone trimmings. It was built in a double cruciform (cross) form. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Directions: It is on a hill with christmas lights streaming in the evening. It can be seen from the expressway.
