The price is very good for the amount of food you get. It's a casual atmosphere and almost everything there is wonderful. It is a good place for family dining. Spasagna, Yankee Pot Roast, Cookie Monster, and Smashed Potatoes.
Des Moines, Iowa (Corn State, April 10th ~ 13th)
- Des Moines means "Mound" in French.
- The name, Iowa, is believed to derive from an American Indian word, Ioway, which means "A beautiful city" or "A city between two livers".
- Red Lobster is fairly well known eatery in mid-west. Pouched salmon is a very good choice. I ordered cod fish on a bed of arugula.
- In West Des Moines, a bolted basketball hoop is almost mandatory to have for a free-standing house.
- The locals love walking around; the elderly are particularly come to big shopping centers and walk anti-clockwise along the wall. Very orderly! Others would do during lunch break.
- State capital building is a must-visit attraction and get a tour guide, Jeff, to entertain you. He is funny and very knowledgeable.
- Iowa judicial branch building, located near State Capitol building, in-houses the Iowa Supreme Court, the Iowa Court of Appeals, and State Court Administration. It seems to me white elephant for the State; brand new building, not much litigation take place and employees are slack; going home before 5pm. Not much area allowed for public.
- Local court can be fun and quite experience to go to in Iowa downtown. We were lucky enough to hear a trial where a sheriff was being grilled by marijana taker?s lawyer over seemingly revoked search warrant of house.
- My bus on the way back to Chicago reached Chicago at 1:15am instead of scheduled 4am. I roamed, or to be precise, killed the time until 7:30am at the bus terminal. So exhausted?
- Only one bookshop in down town Des Moines on Locust Street.
- Iowa city, the old capital, is pretty much nothing more than a student town thanks to University of Iowa. We couldn?t visit the Old Capital building due to its reconstruction.
