Travel Tips for Des Moines
The Drake Diner, The North End...
The Drake Diner, The North End Diner, and The West End Diner are all pretty much the same except for their locations. All three are 50's type diners that serve excellent food. The Cheeseburger has always been a favorite standby of mine. The onion rings are great too. Don't forget the peanut butter and chocolate malt.

"Welcome to Des Moines"
Des Moines is a great city--one of the top places in the whole country for entrepreneurs, according to a major newspaper. :-) So, even though most people and hear "Des Moines" and instantly assume that there's NOTHING there, it is quite the city--especially for its surroundings. It takes less than an hour to get straight across (if there's no construction) and it's a close community as in people are involved in their community. Since my family has moved to Iowa, Des Moines has changed a lot and it rebuilding and changing its image. It is the home of the World Food Prize, the Iowa Youth Chorus, Iowa Cubs (minor league baseball), among a long list of other various groups and institutions. The Drake Relays are held in Des Moines every year--a prestigious long-running track competition. For all that it is made fun of (by outsiders and Iowans alike), it really is a great city--and a nice quiet, relaxing atmosphere for the family. :-)
