West Des Moines...forever my home sweet home
Welcome to a lovely city...and my home for most of my childhood. Although West Des Moines is considered to be a suburb of Des Moines(Iowa's capital city), it's actually a separate city--with its own municipal government, fire department and school system. This is a town known for its excellent public schools and beautiful neighborhoods. It used to be called Valley Junction and it was an active railroad community. Now it is called West Des Moines, of course, situated at the intersection of two major interstates in the United States (I-35 and I-80). One of the original homes built in West Des Moines was a stop on the Underground Railroad--hiding escaped slaves from the South before the Civil War.
As far as fun goes, you'll only find the good clean kind. There's not much nightlife, but it's a very nice place to raise children or to live quietly.
Feel free to e-mail me with any questions about this friendly, Midwestern town.
