Travel Tips for Emporia

Because I grew up in Emporia and visit there often I have almost too many photos on this page. If you have the patience to look at them all you'll learn things about Emporia some people who live here don't know. Growing up here.

There is a large Dolly Madison Bakery here. They make all those 'ding dongs' and 'twinkies' there. On Industrial street in front of the factory is a small store where you can buy many inexpensive bakery items from the factory.

Fremont Park on east 4th Street is not very big. There is an old train there and a gazebo. About once a week in Summer a group of musicians puts on a concert there in the evenings. Nice to lie on the grass on a blanket and listen to the music. I would advice you to take some thing to drink and some insect repellent with you. That will make it more enjoyable.

I grew up in this town and my parents often took us to Fox Granada movie theater. It is even fancier inside than it is on the outside. It had ornate ceilings and red velvet seats. For a while it was not used because a newer movie theater with 8 screens opened at the shopping mall. Now it is being restored.

Because the town is between two rivers there are good fishing spots if you know where to go. Near Soden's Grove bridge there are signs with fishing regulations written in three languages. That is because Emporia has a large Oriental and Hispanic population. The mix of cultures has caused some growing pains in the town but I think it has been good for the community.
