Cheyenne Bottoms is north and...
Cheyenne Bottoms is north and east of Great Bend. I got there by turning from hwy 281 north of Great Bend. Cheyenne Bottoms is called the Jewel of the Prairie. It is a low lying marsh area in the bottom of a 41,000 acre land sink. All of the water drains to the center and collects there. Many thousands of birds go there during migration. Several years ago I saw endangered whooping cranes there. This photo is a large flock of pelicans rising from the water. To see more photos please look at my travelogue. Going to Cheyenne Bottoms three times and seeing some thing new and interesting every time.
