For some thing a little different try staying at Hedrick's Exotic Animal Farm Bed and Breakfast.
It costs more than most other hotels in the area but where else do you get to feed a giraffe?
It is hard to properly describe. You sleep in the top floor of a kind of a barn. (No, it does not smell bad.) Once inside of your room it is nicely furnished and quite charming. We stayed in the camel room. Exotic animals like camels and zebras live right beneath you. As part of your stay you will have a chance to meet the animals up close. I booked a room with 2 queen beds. Upon arival I was given a room with one 1 bed that was not a queen. I went down to the front desk and explained it to the clerk, (who was very nice) that this was NOT the correct room and that it had no phone,and no curtains on the window, (just paper taped to it) After much uncertainty, she was able to change our room, informing us that there would be A/C that would not work too well and possibly a fan in the room to help curculate air.
I was quoted a rate of $ 79.00 a night + tax for a 2 bed qeen room. When the desk clerk made the change of rooms for me, I was told and signed for a rate of $39.95 per night, which I was happy with. At check-out the manager "Sam" did a very sneaky switch with the bill and tried to charge me $91.00 per night + tax. Additionally, he tried to hide the $39.95 rate bill I had singed. Thankfully, after much arguement, I was able to get it from him. This individual, (Sam / manager), was VERY disrespecful, errogant and did just not care about patrons. Simply put, he was not a nice person nor was the hotel he is operating!!!.
Additionally, all the exterior doors were unlocked, the wall paper was falling off the walls. the Ice michanes had black slime on them..YUCK! the complementary shampoo was half full and we had coffee with NO coffee maker, shingles were flying off the roof through the parking lot when I left in the morning and on, and on, and on... The hotel specs stated that each room came equipped with refrigeratprs and coffe makers...they must have been hidden under the bed or something, because I certainly did not see them. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF. The idea the meaning of hospitality is clearly lost on the operators .
The ROOMS might have been nice in the 70's...but have not been kept up since.
ROOM SERVICE..asked for new sheets/towels after room was supposedly serviced but NO SERVICE.
SECURITY...when you have keep one eye open & one eye shut through the night because the parking lot is full of people at 11:30pm. Not a good feeling to have when you are with kid's.

Leisure Hotel owns and runs this 11 year old hotel. I like the idea that Leisure employee's goals are to make the travler feel at home as possible while away from home.
The swimming pool, whirlpool and fitness center never closes, unless it would be weather related or for repairs.
Leisure is gearing up for remodeling this hotel soon. You may want to find out when this is schduled to start and how this may or may not impack your travel plans for this hotel.
This is, by far, the best hotel in town. It is a bit pricey, but you will get a nice room and
a very nice breakfast for your money. And the staff are really informed and friendly.
I received hot vegtable soup upon checking in. It was really cold out and the soup was a very nice touch, I have never seen or even heard of any other hotels doing this in the winter.
After the soup, I was ready for a good hot shower and to hit the bed.
Swimming pool, whirlpool, fitness center and buisness center open 24 hours a day.

In the morning we were served a fantastic breakfast complete with a panoramic view of the giraffes. After breakfast we went on our tour of the farm. We got to meet kangaroos face to face, they ate right out of our hands. We also saw zebras, bison, ostriches, and the kids favorite, a baby goat that followed them around. The highlight for me was "Hugo" the giraffe. He came down and ate a carrot out of my mouth. It was so much fun!
