Monument of the fort
Old Trooper is a statue at Fort Riley. His nickname is 'Old Bill' and the statue marks the grave site of Chief. Chief was the last living cavalry horse. Across the street is the historical Custer House. You can tour the house of the famous general Custer.
There is an old locomotive at Wyman Park on Fort Riley. You can climb up in the train and see what it was like for the engineer who drove the train. I used to like to do stuff like that when I was young... Who am I kidding? I still do stuff like that.
Junction City is one of the nearest towns to Fort Riley. My Fort Riley page is more detailed than this page. However, one cannot have a Fort Riley VT page. It has been classified under Prarie National Park for some reason.
Many people think of Junction City as the town for enlisted men to live if they have to live off post and Manhattan as the town for officers. This is not always true.
Junction City has fast food restaurants, Ryder truck rentals, etc. It's airfield does not have commercial airline service.
I started this page because someone might look for Junction City on VT if they are unable to find a page on Fort Riley. (See Prarie National Park - Kansas)
