Restaurants with character

by Starlas

We'll be in Kansas City soon and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a really nice restaurant. Looking for something that has a lot of character.

You should check out www.barscoop.com. It's a new website for Kansas City and you can search for bars and restaurants based on location, feautres, etc. It's pretty cool.

I would def snoop around online if your looking for restaurants with character reflecting Kansas City. If you like seafood try out Trezo Mare in Briarwood (Kansas City MO) very close to the casinos. They fly in fresh seafood everyday. Pricey but yummy. If your in the mood for great ribs and are up for a bull ride try Saddle Ranch at the Ledgends. Other than that for convienence of location the plaza will serve you well-Brio for good italian and McCormick and Smicks for good seafood that less expensive than Trezo. Plus if your into clubs Blonde is on the plaza and it's one of the most glamorous you'll find in KC-it doesn't hold a candle to Vegas clubs but it is full of good looking guys and gold diggers! ;-)

Travel Tips for Kansas City

There is something of a joke...

by Nomad_2001

There is something of a joke about Kansas, that when you are passing through you MUST drive through quickly to avert the boredom that might ensue. However, if you happen upon Kansas City, Kansas (one of the larger cities in both Kansas and Missouri), there is reason to stop for a while and take in the surroundings. I have heard that it is a great, economical and safe place to live. Not to mention that the University of Missouri, Kansas City has an excellerated medical school program that effectively combines college and medical school-- but you must be very focused and very exceptional at a high school age to gain admittance. (I would NOT have qualified!)

Packing List

Kansas can be very cold in Winter and very hot in Summer. The average temperature is around 50 degrees. 100 degrees in July and 0 degrees in January averages to 50. If you have not been in Kansas before the weather can change quickly.

A visit to Old Shawnee Town at 11501 W. 57th in Shawnee is like stepping back in to the old west. There are old buildings there which have been preserved and cared for. A better travel page than this one about the Shawnee area has been written by 'basstbn' here on VT. Frank lived there for years and he knows that area a lot better than I do.

Take a tour of the Mahaffie stage coach stop and farm at 1100 Kansas City Road in Olathe. My wife's mother lived a short walk from this place. We took a tour and learned a few things. Later we came back for their Bullwhacker Day's festivities and had some fun. I thought the ice house was interesting. In the barn we saw the blade that was used to cut the blocks of ice from the river. The house was right on all the famous trails and was a stagecoach stop as well.

Huron Park

by basstbn

A tranquil refuge in downtown Kansas City, Kansas, located next to the historic Huron Cemetery. Pictured here on a cold, blustery St. Patricks's Day after the daffodils and hyacinths have already bloomed. Two days later, these flowers will be covered with snow.
