There is a fine looking building at 500 N. Main called 500 Main Place. That is easy to remember. It is just north of the train station. Inside is a visitor center. There are leaflets, maps, information, and even free postcards. It is a place you must visit if you have not been to Newton before. My fondest memory was going to my sister's highschool graduation in Newton.

At points of historical interest in Newton there are informational signs like this one. This one was in a small park by the carriage factory. I saw one in front of the museum and the Warkentine house also.

Newton a city in Kansas with a population just over 17,00 is probably most famous for the Gunfight at Hide Park, which ultimately resulted in 8 men being killed before, this incident led to Newton being known as "bloody and lawless—the wickedest city in the west."

Every summer after the end of the Civil War, long-horned, long-legged cattle travelled north from the pastures of Texas. At locations such as Newton the animals had climbed aboard trains of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Rail Road.
