Good Mexican Food Near the Junior College
by basstbn about Tequila Harry's
Although Tequila Harry's is located a few minutes drive from my home, I did not give it a try until recently (Jan 05). One of my sons-in-law gave it a good recommendation so I tried it when Nancy was away. Too bad I waited four years to try it out.
First kudos go to the wait staff. Really nice. Friendly, efficient, all that good stuff. Ambience - nothing really special, but nonetheless clean, attractive, and inviting. Food - served fresh, warm and well-prepared.
If there was a negative, it was that the bar area which you must pass through enroute to the dining area is small and smokey. I walked fast and didn't stop to talk to the hostess until inside the dining room. That certainly didn't ruin my experience though. Chicken chimichanga is a great choice. Crispy outside, but not tough; chicken tender and tasty. Nice cheese/salsa sauce covered it. Ask for the whole beans (pintos) instead of the refried. They're excellent. A good beer choice to go with that is the Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat - from a local brewer.
Saturday Mornings in Old Downtown Overland Park
by basstbn
"The Clock Tower"
Symbol of Overland Park.
"Bringing the pumpkin patch to town."
October means pumpkins, and lots of them. This little fellow was excited to have his picture taken and be "on the computer," but he almost hid too well behind his dad's pumpkin.
"Jazz in the Morning"
Vince Bilardi, long-time drummer in the KC area, leads his quartet through some standard jazz tunes. At the time this photo was taken, the group was playing "September Song." Momentarily after they had played the phrase "...these precious days remind me of you," I happened to glance to my left where a past-middle aged woman set alone. Tears rolled down her cheeks. A poignant moment.
"Colorful Crops"
Local vegetables still available in the market in early October, but the first freeze is not far away.
"Time to Chat"
Buying directly from the grower is also more personal and enjoyable than going to the supermarket.
"More pumpkins"
Just load up the old pickup and head for town, the customers will show up. Pumpkins must surely be the most photogenic of vegetables.
"Enjoying one of the last warm days of fall"
People dressed in sweatshirts or light jackets enjoyed the beautiful Kansas weather, but within a few days the cool autumn rains hit and the temperatures dropped. But this day was memorable.
