In the heart of down town Wichita is our newest hotel, the Hyatt Hotel. It is located right off the Arkansas River (which you must watch out when the river goes over its banks and covers the sidewalk). They have a nice water fountain that you can walk by and sit and enjoy for awhile.
Red Bean’s Bayou Grill
by AcornMan about Red Bean’s Bayou Grill
As you may have gathered from the name, Red Bean’s Bayou Grill is a cajun restaurant. There are two locations in Wichita, one serving the eas side of town and the other serving the west side. Both are very popular and can get crowded at peak times, but it's well worth the wait becuase cajun food is hard to come by in these parts, and this is definitely the best place for it anywhere near Wichita.
City in Middle of the State
by BruceDunning
"Roads in the center"
Highway 35 runs right through the middle of the city. That is good and bad. Traffic used to be a disaster to get through the city. They now have taken much of it underground level, and nearly finished with the 3-4 year work.
"View of the old Part of City"
The highway cuts right through much of the old and new parts of the city. NOw they have roadside fast food franchises and car dealerships.
"Culture of the city"
Museums on the riverfront and the river walk is nice to take. Being this is one of a few cities with a sizable population; 400,000, it has some art and other big city attractions. The river in the center is a nice place to stroll. Airplane manufacturing has been the nucleus for centuries now. In good and bad times it goes up and down. NOw it is down and about 5,000 of 25,000 laid off work until a recovery, if it comes. Financial center of activity is also pronounced.
