There is a lot of stuff to do on the east and west sides, actually mainly just shopping. All the fun stuff is generally downtown. Also try to go in early may for the annual Wichita River Festival. If you like groups of 100,000 people or more than you will really like the parade and fireworks. I was born and raised here

The Coleman Museum and Showroom is on St. Francis Street a short distance North of Douglas near Central. The museum portion is small. It is a set of glass cases with items and photos in one corner of the show room. The rest of the place is a store where you can buy discounted Coleman products. Coleman makes great kerosene lanterns and camping supplies.

We have a good size zoo here. It will take a good 3 to 4 hours to visit the whole place. Of course if you dont feel like walking the zoo they do have a train that stops frequently throughout the zoo for you.
New this year for 2007 we will now have Cessna Penguin Cove!!

I have relatives in Derby near Wichita so I go there often to see them. The drive from where I live to Wichita takes me through the Flint Hills. It is some of the finest cattle country in the world. Driving through that area it is not hard to imagine how Wichita was a cow town in the 1870's.
Wichita began as a trading post in 1867 named after the Wichita indians who inhabited the area. From that humble start Wichita has grown into the largest city in Kansas. It is a center for aircraft-manufacturing and industry. McConnell airforce base is there. There are several universties and colleges in Wichita.
There is also quite a lot to see and do. I'll try and share some of those things with you here.
