Historic - but no longer in operation

by written on January 25, 2010

As of this writing (January 2010) the Midland Hotel is not operating.

I highly recommend Simple Haven B&B, an 1886 stone farmhouse, within a couple of blocks of the Midland on the opposite side of the train tracks and Old US Hwy 40.

Unique Quality: Remember the 1973 movie, "Paper Moon," for which 10-year old Tatum O'Neal won an Oscar? The Peter Bogdanovich flick also starred Ryan O'Neal and Madeline Kahn. Scenes from this film about a traveling con-man / Bible salesman were shot in this hotel in Wilson, Kansas. The hotel was built in 1899, and in recent decades renovated to house a B&B with a fine restaurant featuring memorabilia from "Paper Moon." Apparently that was not enough to keep it in business.
