Barns at Timber Creek: Sleep in the hay loft
On our second visit to the Walnut Valley Festival in 2005, we were pleased to learn of a bed and breakfast operated by the sister and brother-in-law of a friend. Barns at Timber Creek is a pleasant place to stay about a mile and a half north of Winfied, Kansas. There are five guest rooms in the 1890s barn, ours was the Bird Cage Room in the hay loft. It had a balcony overlooking the countryside. A full, country breakfast is provided.
Your greeting committee is a pair of friendly, lovable black labs. The welcome only gets warmer when you meet the Rudes. The barn is a comfortable and hospitable place to stay, plus you can enjoy the sounds and solitude of country living - if only for a day or two. I had forgotten what an old, rickety windmill sounds like when the wind is blowing.
Also on the property is the skeleton of a stone barn dating back to 1886. This relic was damaged severely by a recent fire, but Martin and Cheryl plan to renovate it for use as a meeting or reception hall.
