26 lodge rooms with 2 queen beds, refrigerator, coffee maker. Each room has a balcony overlooking the woods. I did not stay here, but my friends did and were very satisfied!
This is the farthest thing from "roughing it" in the woods. There are 10 two bedroom cottages, each with two bathrooms. Kitchen with all utensils (dishes, silverware, pots and pans, coffee maker) dining room, living room, AIR CONDITIONING, wood burning fireplace, barbecue grill outside...and a covered deck overlooking the woods.
Very comfortable accomodations and great for a group! Other than the restaurant at the lodge, there's nowhere to eat...so, it's nice to be able to bring and cook your own meals!
We have stayed in several of the lodges within the Kentucky State Park system, and each time it has been a good experience. Caveland Lodge was especially so. With the new fallen snow, the winding mountain roads leading into Carter Caves were a bit treacherous, but passable. However, some of the lodge staff were unable to make it out of the remote hollows in which they live, so the staff on hand stayed over for three days. There were only a dozen or so guest staying at the lodge that weekend, so we all got to know each other. Karen and I enjoyed several long hikes in the winter wonderland. See our activity tip for hiking.
During the snowy weather we loved the roaring fireplace in the large lobby. It was also convenient to have a nice restaurant in the building. The lodge is centrally located to several great hiking trails.
