School House Inn by Gra8ful So many people have wonderful things to say about the School House Inn. It used to be an Old High School years ago. It sits nestled in the Beautiful mountains of S.E. Kentucky in Harlan County Kentucky. The people are wonderful, warm and friendly. This would sure be a nice get away for any special occasion.
The Inn has 30 rooms. A nice restaurant called the Apple Tree restaurant. A Honeymoon Suite with a hot tub. Some with fireplaces. A lovely cozy getaway. Travel Coupon Guide by LoriPori Tuesday, September 22, 2009 First day of our "Road Trip" 2009 After a full day of driving from the Windsor/Detroit area, we were in the Cave City Kentucky area and started looking for a place to stay for the night. I checked my Motel Coupon Book and decided on the ECONOLODGE. The coupon rate was for $29.00 US. What a pleasant surprise we had and really enjoyed our stay here. I didn't expect much for the price, but all the rooms were recently renovated, we had a lovely continental breakfast in the morning and they had a computer with high speed internet available for free use in their lobby. Located in Cave City, off the Hwy 65 Exit53 Motel Coupon Books are available at the State Welcome Centers and rest areas and are based on availability. The Shaker Village at Pleasant offers accomodations in the upper floors and special buildings of the exhibit. Prices are reasonable and alow you to get a real feel for life in a slower time.

Checked in late afternoon into this nice historic hotel. First impressions were that the staff was friendly, elevators were dreadfully slow and had tiny doors (are these the original elevators???), and the rooms were small, but elegantly decorated. We didn't hang around to check out many of the amenities, but made a trip to Restaurant Row (10 minutes away) and later to 4th Street Live to party at the bars which were just steps away from our hotel. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for convenience to the downtown party scene and the heart of the city. This is truly one of the nicer hotels in town and you just can't beat the location.
The most striking thing about this hotel is the minute you walk in the door you can't help but feel steeped in history. The hotel is over a century old (opened in 1905) and has had all sorts of famous figures spend a night between its walls including 9 U.S. Presidents and even Al Capone. The hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places and its Grand Ballroom served as the backdrop for Tom & Daisy's wedding in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. The hotel is home to one of Louisville's finest restaurant's, The Oakroom, which has become a dining bastion for executives and socialites.
