Worst stay ever

The hotel was dark, dirty and unsafe. None of the outside doors locked properly, if at all. The front desk screwed up my room 3 times. The carpet and bathroom were so dirty that I didn't want to take off my shoes. DO NOT stay here!!!

Travel Tips for Lexington

The ideal time to visit...

by Ky_Happy_Dad

The ideal time to visit Lexington is a beautiful fall Saturday when you can attend racing at the fall meet at Keeneland and then attend a University of Kentucky night football game at Commonwealth stadium. This is also the time when restaurants and hotels are most likely to be full, so advance reservations are recommended. Spring is another excellent time to visit. In the winter season, Kentuckians will be found glued to their televisions or radio's watching the basketball wildcats, or commenting on the last game. Home games at Rupp arena are usually sold out, but tickets can usually be found, especially when Kentucky plays a game while the students are on Christmas break.

Transylvania University

by grandmaR

Just on a whim, I decided to go by Transylvania University, and see what was there. We found a parking spot right away, and went into the library. There the archives person said that I couldn't come and look myself, but that she would look for and send me R.C. Hewett's thesis. (Robert Carson Hewett was my husband's great great grandfather)

So we took some pictures of the buildings and signs (other Transylvania alumni include Jefferson Davis, John Hunt Morgan, Stephen F. Austin, Cassius M. Clay, John Fox Jr., 2 vice presidents, 50 U.S. Senators, 101 Representatives, three House Speakers, 36 Governors and 34 Ambassadors) and drove back to the condo unit

Giuseppe's Restorante Italiano

by Agraichen about Giuseppe's Restorante Italiano

On a recommendation from a local store owner we attempted to dine at Giuseppe’s one night only to find that not only were there no parking places in the parking lot or within a ¼ mile of the restaurant there was at least a 2 hour wait for the occasional “walk-in” patron. That said we grabbed a business card and called for a reservation a few days in the future.

Located on a hard to see side road just off of Nicholasville Road about a mile past the Fayette Mall we arrived to find an unpretentious but comfortable looking building with a bar on the right side and a nicely appointed dining room on the left. Booths ran around the outer area of the dining room while a raised floor with tables was in the center. The menu was not overly extensive but carried 6-8 items for most every category one would want from an Italian restaurant.

The wine list too was not extensive but the 6-8 (5x7) pages carried an impressive list. Wines ranged from ordinary Italian and US “table wines” to bottles one would expect to find in only 5* venues (Jordon, Opus, Quintessa). The best part was the price. A bottle of Quintessa or Opus that retails for well over $125 at the winery was priced at only $170-200. The food was just as good. Entrees were priced from $12-24 and were prepared perfectly. I had the Chicken Marsala and it was excellent. Comments from others that had Lasagna, Pasta Bolognese were similar.

Kentucky Horse Park

by JREllison

The Kentucky Horse Park is located on Ky 1973 (Iron Works Pike) Interstates 64 and 75 meet on the East side of Lexington and run together until I-75 turn North toward Cincinnati. Right after the highways separate exit I-75 onto Iron Works Pike Eastbound. The Horse Park is less than a mile ahead on the left hand side.

Kentuck Horse Park is a working horse farm and an educational theme park which opened in 1978 in Lexington, Kentucky.

Calumet Farm Display

by 807Wheaton

At the end of the self-guided tour there are several huge rooms that have trophies from the Calumet Farm which is on Versailles Road. It is amazing to see all the plates, trophies and awards that have been amassed by one family in the horse breeding and racing business . Outside is the Draft Horse Barn, the Carriage Horse Barn and the Breeds Barn. There is also the American Saddlebred Museum. You can walk around a 1/2 Mile Race Track and see the Horseback Riding and Pony Paddock. The Morgan Horse Statue, The Secretariat Statue and the Phoenix Statue are displayed on the grounds outside the buildings.
If you spend more than half a day here, which is very easy to do there is a restaurant for lunchtime. We came after lunch so we didn't eat there.
