Southern Festival of Lights

A "must-see" holiday attraction, Southern Lights is an exciting drive-through animated light display at the Kentucky Horse Park . Southern Lights is the largest holiday light show in Kentucky . Youngsters can pet reindeer and other creatures in the Petting Zoo and talk to Santa. You can shop for handmade crafts, or just enjoy cookies and hot chocolate as you listen to area choirs and other entertainers. See "Holiday Packages" for special vacation packages.

REAL Ice Cream

Bruster's advertises its product as "real ice cream" and having tasted it, I find it hard to argue with them. We made a mid afternoon stop for a pick me up and I found my favorite flavor of ice cream - black walnut. The portions are huge so be prepared to eat a lot. Our granddaughter had a sunday with gummy worms - yuk! but she found it wonderful. I also like the waffle cones which they bake on the premises (though I am sure the mix is shipped from somewhere else) and you can get your sundae in an edible waffle bowl as well.

People don't visit Ramsey's for the decor. It is decorated with old mismatched tables and chairs and old photographs from Lexington.
What brings people back is the food is great at reasonable prices. You can pick a main dish and also choose from an abundant menu of freshly cooked vegetables. Also save room for a home made pie from Missy's (a pie shop owned by this chain). Pork steak in red sauce or vegetable plate. Homestyle comfort food that will leave you satisfied.

What a relaxing place! Beautiful and peaceful. The best time to go in my opinion is in the Spring when the Tulips are in full bloom. The flower gardens are beautiful. Home to a few celebrity graves as well such as Jim Varney (Earnest)
Visit the Henry Clay mansion -...

Visit the Henry Clay mansion - Ashland. This is perhaps Lexington's best historical site. It is well preserved and offers a wonderful guided tour. Henry Clay is worth knowing about, sadly few today do. He is considered one of the greatest statesmen in the history of the United States. The story of his trip from Kentucky to Washington DC when he became a congressman is particularly fascinating. What now takes 9 hours to drive took Henry Clay much longer.
