Travel Tips for Lexington

I have met some of the warmest...

by roadrulz

I have met some of the warmest and coldest people there. Being caucasian I didn't feel it first hand, but some teammates of mine where outcast for being black. There are some very racist people there. But overall the people were super nice.

Road House Home Cooked

by Agraichen about Ramsey's

Ramsey’s – There are now multiple locations, but we went to the one located on the outskirts of Lexington on Harrodsburg Road (actually near “Old Harrodsburg Road”). Looking like it had been located in the area for many years and perhaps saved only by history when the “new road” was built.

The menu is not very extensive but has all the basics including “Hot Brown,” a local favorite (normally enough for 4 on one plate). The portions are typically large for the price. The menu consists of a list of meats and a list of vegetables. Most meals consist of choosing one meat and up to three vegetables.

Upon first glance, I noted that any restaurant that considered “Mac and Cheese” a vegetable, had to be good. The meatloaf was excellent. Not too “mushy” as some commercial products tend to be; just the right seasoning and lots of it. The creamed corn was excellent (and I don’t typically like creamed corn). The beans were only “so, so” but all in our group tend to like beans with a bit of flavor; these were rather bland, which may be the style in the area. The “small side” salads were huge; in addition to lettuce, they add tomatoes, eggs, and cheese in amounts equal to the lettuce making for a large plate.

Several Barbecue choices

by Ky_Happy_Dad about Dave's Famous Ribs/ Tony Roma's

Lexington doesn't have an outstanding local barbeque restaurant, but several chains serve good barbeque.

The newest for Lexington is Famous Dave's Ribs located in front of the Lexington mall (New Circle at Richmond Rd), where several other resturants have failed. Famous Dave's has good ribs and side items. I hope it can remain in business despite the unlucky location. An old standby near Joseph Beth Booksellers is Tony Roma's. Excellent sauce selections. Ribs. Its the only thing I've ordered from either restaurant.

The Horse in the Middle Ages through the present

by 807Wheaton

The tour continues through a description of each kind of horse and its development, use and popularity. There are displays of several tapestries: a small reproduction of the Bayeux tapestry found in Bayeux, France. There are 190 horses displayed on the embroidered tapestry. There is replica of Le Chevalier Tapestry which is on exhibit at Montacute House in Somerset, England. Another weaving shows Mohammad leaving Mecca. There are drawings by Leonard di Vinci of his beautiful horses and quite detailed stories about the importation of horses into Spain and the Western Hemisphere by the Spanish.

ASHLAND -- HOME OF HENRY CLAY

by gkitzmil

If you like architecture, history, or both, visit the home of U.S. Statesman and Senator Henry Clay: Ashland. The mansion stands on the site of the original Ashland, home of Henry Clay from 1806 to 1852. It was rebuilt in 1857 due to crumbling brick, but is still now 250 years old.

The present Italianate style house was completed by Clay’s son James ( in 1857). The interior was remodeled in the Victorian style by Anne Clay McDowell, one of Clay’s granddaughters, in the 1880s.

About 90% of the items in the home have been owned and used by the Clay family.
