Very Good Resort Hotel
Our stay at the hotel was very good. We liked being on the corner end as the corner elevator was convenient and away from the lobby. Plus the Club Room/Concierge Room was just out the door of the corner elevator on the first floor. It is a beautiful hotel and was busy with conferences during our visit. While we were "vacationers" we really enjoyed our stay. The beautiful pool setting is fantastic with lots of nooks for sunbathing and relaxing. The Club Room/Concierge was excellent. They had a large spread for Happy Hour each day and also for breakfast they had hot and cold items. Note: they do have an honor system during Happy Hour for alcoholic beverages (fill out the form and you are charged for the alcohol.) We hadn’t seen this in the Club/Concierge of other hotels we’ve visited. Their spread of food is so good that it is still a good deal! We played golf and truly enjoyed the golf course. Play early and miss the later crowds. We played as a twosome with an 8:10AM tee time and finishing in about 3 1/2 hrs. The course is fun with plenty of challenges and extremely well maintained. Whether you eat at the hotel or not, be sure to stop in for a slice of the "Kentucky Bourbon Butter Cake". Fantastic!!!
Unique Quality: The golf course is terrific and very enjoyable to play. Also, we found the pool area excellent. Be sure to at least have their award winning Kentucky Bourbon Butter Cake as a special treat.
Room Tip: Get rooms on the corners - elevators are convenient. We were on the corner toward the Manor with great views.
Marriott's Griffin Gate Resort
I have spent a little time at this hotel and would have to say that it is probably Lexington's best hotel. Although it sets out of the town center and therefore not walkable to any attractions, there are many amenities to it that make it worthwile. The rooms are of good size and the beds extraordinairly comfortable. There is a wonderufl indoor pool and fitness center, as well as the great restaurant The Mansion. (Very expensive and one of the best places to eat at in town.) They also have a Starbucks, a steakhouse, and a bar. If you're into golf, they have their own golf course as well. A lot of conferences and seminars take place at this hotel so it's almost always busy.

Lexington has several nice hotels. Near the interstate highway off Newtown Pike, the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort hotel offers a nice golf course, swimming pool, and several restaurants. This is probably Lexington's best hotel for a person interested in recreation. A new Embassy Suites hotel has opened across the road, which is probably very nice judged from others I've stayed in. This hotel chain caters toward the business traveler.
Many less expensive hotel chains, such as the Hampton Inn and a Best Western Regency are found off the interstate at the Winchester Road exit or the Man-O-
War Blvd exit. Visitors wanting to attend the University of Kentucky basketball games at Rupp Arena should stay at the Hyatt Regency or the Radisson if they can afford to do so; both are located downtown adjacent to the arena.
