Find a riding lesson
by rexvaughan
Obviously in this part of the country horseback riding and training is everywhere. We were fortunate in that a friend of the family lives in the area and arranged for our granddaughter to have an hour's lesson with a young woman who teaches regularly here. I am sure anyone could probably arrange such if they did a little research on the net and it really made Sally's day as she was missing her regular lesson at home. Of course any time she can spend on a horse is great with her.
My Second Favorite
by Krumlovgirl about Natasha's
Oooh, oohhh, ohhh. This is the place that you eat at when you want to forget that you're in Kentucky. VERY European. Could have something to do with the fact that the owner is Russian. Check out the gift shop with lots of international stuff. Baked Brie & Fruit Chutney
Little Italy SB--Fresh mozzarella, roma tomatoes, basil with a touch of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
Hungarian Goulash--Traditional braised beef, tomatoes, peppers, paprika (also served as a wrap)
Gypsy Stew--Colorful stew of chicken, beef, and lamb, with mushrooms, olives, peppers, squashes, tomatoes, and herbs on a bed of brown lentils.
Seafood
by Ky_Happy_Dad about The Regatta Restaurant/ Halls on the River
I've listed two choices: For authentic seafood, the Regatta Restaurant (located in the Lexington Green Mall overlooking the lake) is decent considering Lexington is located nowhere near an ocean. Fish are flown in weekly and it has a wide selection.
For a local central Kentucky treat, try one of the casual catfish restaurants on the Kentucky River near Athens, such as Hall's on the River. Try the famous snappy beer cheese. This is a great place to enjoy a warm fall day overlooking the river and eat catfish in a casual atmosphere.
Southern Lights at Kentucky Horse Park
by JREllison
With out a doubt the Christmas Lighting event of the season! The Park is decorated with amazing strings of lights with Christmas and horse themes. This drive through display starts in the middle of November and runs until Christmas. Admission is $15 for a personal car load of 4, the bigger the vehicle the higher the ticket.
The drive through the displays is at a walking pace and takes over a half hour. At the end there is the Horse Park Museum, gift shop, a petting zoo, toy and model train displays, and refreshments.
Relax at McConnell Springs
by JREllison
McConnell Springs is a significant site in Lexington history because it was here that a group of early settlers were camped when the firts heard the news of the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. The city that was to grow in the area surrounding the springs was named Lexington in honor of that first battle. In the 1770s Kentucky began attracting frontiersmen and after the end of Virginia Governor Dunmore's campaign against the American Indians of the west in 1774, William McConnell and some fellow frontiersmen came from Pennsylvania to explore the this area. In 1775 McConnell and his group were camped at the Springs site when news of the first shots of the War reached them from nearby Fort Boonesborough.
