Downtown can be fun at times...

Downtown can be fun at times to just walk around. There's the Cathedral of the Assumption, which was redone recently. There's the waterfront, which can be seen from the Belvidere ('park' that sits above I-64) or from the Great Lawn and associated park a little east. Main Street has some historic buildings.
Le Relais
by dzni about Le Relais
Very expensive French restaurant, but very good food too. Actually, this is a very unique place in that it's in part of a converted airport terminal (with the airport runways and planes right behind of course). Bowman Field was used at least as far back as World War II for stationed Air Force. Who knows, maybe it's farther back. But the terminal definitely reminds you of days past... just watch some old war movie that took place in the 30's.
5 star dining
by dzni about Oakroom at the Seelbach
This is Louisville's only 5-star restaurant, and if you are willing to spend a little money (read: a lot) and dress for the occassion, I would highly reccommend this place! This is definitely fine dining by anyone's definition of the term. The food is wonderful, as to be expected, and the service is extremely attentive, but not bothersome. The decor is very much oaken with fine adornments and such... anyway, just extremely good food. Most of the chef's dishes are based on regionally available food, using Bourbon, of course, in many a dish. Likewise, there's a very extensive wine list.
Art-o-Mat at Kentucky Center - Cheap Art!
by TravellerMel
Art-o-Mat machines are refurbished cigarette vending machines, reconfigured to dispense artwork. For $5 each, you select the artist/artwork you want by pulling the knob linked to them. It is fun, and affordable.
At the Kentucky Center Art-o-Mat, I got a mixed media color block, and a block containing one piece of a 117 piece painting - kinda looks like an eye. I'll upload photos soon!
