Lodging Near Cave Hill & Dinner Suggestions

by MadAboutParis

I'm going in April to visit Cave Hill Cemetery and the artsy areas - can anyone suggest a place to stay that would be within walking distance of the cemetery?
Also, I'd like a non-chain restaurant suggestion. Nothing too fussy or formal; I liked Artemisia when I was in L-ville in 2003. And the Paradise Cafe rocks!

Thanks,
Mary

Inn off the Alley is a little B&B off Bardstown Rd in the Highlands and is the only lodging within walking distance of Cave Hill. It is right in the middle of everything your looking for. On a personal note it is where I buried my little brother, he used to go for walks there a lot.

Travel Tips for Louisville

The Ohio River and waterfront...

by miner

The Ohio River and waterfront area My best memory would have to be seeing the city disapear in the rear view mirror of the U-Haul I was driving through the city at rush hour.
Next to that is watching the river traffic and cruise boats.

Museums and Theatre.... we...

by dzni

Museums and Theatre.... we actually have both here! :) The Louisville Science Center downtown is great for kids and is decently sized. The Speed Art Museum can be fun for a couple hours, with a couple paintings by Picasso and such. Downtown we have the Kentucky Center for the Arts, where most big-name performances pass through. There's also more local theatre with Actor's Theatre of Louisville and The Palace (this one gets big ones too).

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse atop the Kaden Tower

by Tom_Fields about Ruth's Chris Steakhouse

An excellent, if rather pricey, restaurant. The best part is the great view of the city from atop the Kaden Tower. This unique Frank Lloyd Wright design is controversial; most people either love it or hate it. Hard to say. Everything is good.

Heine Brothers Coffee

by dzni about Heine Brothers Coffee

Again, several places around town, but mainly concentrated in the Highlands/Crescent Hill/St. Matthews area of town. This is probably my favorite local coffeehouse in Louisville, and I tend to visit it everyday or at least several times a week!

Small interesting Museum

by gkitzmil

I would not have thought I could spend 3+ hours in a small museum that had a fabulous pirated exhibit and exhibits on armour and arms. Though I had seen many of the artifacts in the pirate exhibit before at the Mel Fisher Museum in Florida, the atmosphere created at the Frazier was really entertaining and had many facts about pirates. The interpreters that went "into character" of pirates, basically made this visit complete. In fact, we returned to the museum for a later session just to see the interpreters do another presentation.

if you are reading this before September 7, and you are in Louisville, and you have ANY interest in true pirate artifacts, GO NOW.
