Travel Tips for Louisville

Louisville Free Library

by grandmaR

After I tried to access some newspaper obituaries in Frankfort, only to be told that they didn't have that particular microfiche, we went to the Louisville Library. They did have a lot of the fiche, and I could make copies. Bob even found a book on Carl Brenner with a list of his paintings (unfortunately no pictures)

I could have stayed longer, but we had to feed the parking meter in the lot across the street, and also I got hungry.

Saint X-Trinity High School Football Game

by John195123

One of the biggest rivalries in the area, next to U of L and UK basketball, the St. X/Trinity game is attended by many locals, even those who never attended either school. Played in late September at Papa John's Stadium, it's always a great game and a good time. Both are excellent schools academically, and they often rule the field regardless of who they play. I believe you can buy tickets at the gate.

O'Charley's

by dzni about O'Charley's

O'Charley's has a great selection of food. Steaks, chicken... American fare. Anyway, the ambience of their restaurants is always nice and the food is always excellent. I especially love their salads. Most people love the bread here too, although I'm not so enamored with it.

Kentucky Kingdom

by mafootje

This Six Flags park originaly started as the Midway of the Kentucky State Fair. Slowly more rides where added and in 1987 it was open throughout the season instead of only during the fair.

In 1998 this park became the ninth Six Flags park.

The park has 5 steel and 2 wooden coasters but also has many other attractions for all ages.

Kentucky Derby Museum

by V_Minx

The Kentucky Derby is synonymous with Louisville. Even if you are not a horse racing fan, go to Churchill Downs and go see the museum. The history behind this race is fascinating and tours are offered to give you a better feel and appreciation for everything that goes on in preparing for a horse race. Also, once you've paid to get in the museum, the tour is included and you have full access to the racetrack.

Neither my girlfriend or I are horseracing fans, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. I would recommend at least 3 hours to take full advantage of all that the museum has to offer.
