BUS SERVICE MSY-BATON ROUGE

by DIRTYSECRET

How can I get to Baton Rouge after arriving at New Orleans International? I'd like to spend a few days in the city in October, hopefully attending a LSU game. I'd rather not rent a car unless it's unfeasable. Thanks.

The shuttle is very expensive. The alternative is to take Greyhound or a cheaper shuttle to Downtown New Orleans, then take a bus back to MSY, but the airport is a long way from Downtown.
It would be better and cheaper to rent a car. Or, you could always fly out of Baton Rouge.

Travel Tips for Baton Rouge

Soak in All Things LSU

by Jmill42

This picture was taken at the 2000 LSU-Tennessee game. Considering I had my best friends there, the game was close, LSU won on the final play of the game, we all hopped the fence to rush the field, this was my favorite LSU moment. It was also my last game as an undergraduate.

This is a picture of my fondest memory; packed house 92,000 strong, Tiger Stadium, baby!

Greenwood in St. Francisville

by BruceDunning

This is a beautiful restoration project that has been ongoing for nearly 10 years. The plantation home burned down. The property was purchased by the dad of the now owner and he is hanging on from tour charges, barely. A real nice guy and proud of the work done. It is a realisitic looking replica.
The plantation once has 12,000 acres and grew cotton and sugar. It now has about 1,000 acres. The Barrows from the area constructed in 1830, and they flaunted the wealth. Barrow's daughter, Martha married into the Turnbull's and became known for the Rosedown. Small world down here.

Crawfish Pie is a must

by cynthi about Harrington’s Café

Ahh... Harringtons... open only from 11 to 2 Monday through Friday. Boy this place is a great lunch spot... and sure is busy from 11 to 12. At Harringtons you walk up to the counter, order, pay, and then you sit down and they bring your food... Kind of nice if you go with a bunch of people because you don't have to wait forever for the bill... that is, if you can get a table! Go for the Daily Special... but if you go on Crawfish Pie day you better get there early or they might run out!

LSU Campus

by Jmill42

The LSU campus is a great place to start a tour of Baton Rouge. It is a very beautiful campus with many historic sites on its grounds. From the real indian burial mounds, to the Greek-style amphitheater, to Tiger Stadium, it is a must see! With hundreds of different kinds of plant life around the campus, it was rated as the most beautiful campus by Princeton Review 1999. It can't possibly change that much in a couple of years, right?

Louisiana State Capitol

by John_P_LSU

Its the tallest building in Baton Rouge and the tallest state capitol building in the United States.
The view from the top is very nice, and you can see up and down the Mississippi River for miles.
Touring the inside of the building is highly recommended. Very interesting indeed!
