Absolutely Awesome!!!
This was a very, very nice motel. We've stayed in Baton Rouge, LA before and been disappointed with the cleanliness. Not here. We will come back and recommend this to friends. We stayed at Two Queens Non Smoking with Pillow top mattress, Television cable channels, Complimentary Internet access, Free local calls, Complimentary newspapers, Microwave, Hair dryer, Iron/ironing board, Air conditioning. The bathroom was spotless and had with separate bathtub and shower; Bath amenities include Hair Dryer and complimentary toiletries. Hotel is located near to Mall of Louisiana and Mall at Cortana. I give A + to this hotel.

This is a beautifully landscaped 17 acre tract located on the outskirts of Baton Rouge. Cohn Arboretum makes for a pleasant side trip from The Greater Baton Rouge Zoo. Admission is free and the site is run by The Parks Commission of The Parish of East Baton Rouge. Trails and paths roam the area and circle a large pond. The Arboretum houses several major plant collections including a Japanese Maple Collection, an Orchid/Bromeliad House, a Tropical House, a Camellia Collection, Evergreen and Conifer collections, a Crape Myrtle Collection and an Herb/Fragrance Garden. Native woodland plants are also represented as part of a small forest habitat.
Cohn Arboretum is located at 12206 Foster Road, just off Thomas Road.
Great Italian
by nicholasgasper about Portabello's
The food here is great. The menu is a little limited, but it is all good. It is Italian with a mix of cajun. The pork chops are the best I have ever had. The lasagna is loaded with cheese. The potatoes au gratin are wonderful and creamy. Crawfish and corn bisque is great.
Inside the Capitol
by DJMist
Touring the inside of the capitol on your own should be quick but very interesting. Because the capitol is so tall the atrium is rather small. Both houses of congress are less than 100 ft. from the entrance. There are great bronze doors to each chamber with intricate metalwork detail. There are artifacts and newspaper articles detailing the assassination of Huey P Long and you can even view a bullet hole in the wall. The ceiling artwork is full of references to Louisiana history. Of course you must go to the observation deck. Take the elevator to the 24th floor exit and take a smaller elevator to the 27th floor - enjoy the views. Open daily 9 - 4.
Mike the Tiger
by Jmill42
Putting aside the whole disagreement with animals in cages, one of the coolest things to see in Baton Rouge is Mike the Tiger. Located on LSU's campus between the football stadium and the basketball dome (Tiger Stadium and the PMAC), Mike sits in his large cage underneath some huge oak trees. My advice is to go late at night, say 11:00 PM on a normal (i.e. no game) night. Both times I have been out there at that time, he has been outside, letting out roars and pacing the lenght of his cage. Quite a sight, and no zoo fees!
Louisiana State University

Pete Maravich Assembly Center is the domed building to the right which is also known as the "Deaf Dome". The stadium which was opened in 1971 can seat over 14,000 spectators. The building was named after the late "Pistol Pete" Maravich, a LSU basketball star player who played three seasons and still currently holds the all-time career scoring record for the NCAA. He then went on to play professionally. At a cost of $11.5 million, the building is one of the most versatile on campus, providing a sports arena, concert facilities, and an auditorium. To the rear is Tiger Stadium, known as “Death Valley”. The original seating capacity was 12,000 in 1926 and the total capacity now is 91,644. .
