Death Valley

A night game at LSU's stadium is so awesome. 92,000 REALLY excited fans. Fans here are like fans of Premiership Soccor leagues in the UK... they live and die by their team. The crowd is SUPER load (actually registering on a seismograph) and wild. If you get the chance to be in the student section, DO IT! It is the best spot for college sports on the planet (when LSU is doing good, of course). Alcohol... if you can sneak it in, which is one of the great LSU student planning accomplishments. We will come up with anyway to get the stuff in!
oh so good!!!
by John_P_LSU about Phil's Oyster Bar
Nothing fancy, just great Louisiana food. Try the Fried Shrimp Po-Boy too. Seafood Gumbo. Since I no longer live in Baton Rouge, I crave the great food often. So if Mom didn't make any Gumbo, I head a few blocks over to Phil's. Almost as good as Mom's.
Brunét’s Cajun Restaurant
by cynthi about Brunét’s Cajun Restaurant
The have a bar and dance floor with live music (wed and sat nights) in part of the restaurant. The dance floor can get crowded though! Not a franchise. I really like this place, and the prices are very reasonable. Delicious seafood and Louisiana cooking! Honestly, almost everything here is good... hush puppies come with your meal.
The oldest mounds in the Western hemisphere
by Virtuous_Tourist
These pre-historic Indian mounds are on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. They are over 5,000 years old and predate The Egyptian Pyramids. The mounds are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

It's the nation's 10 largest port 230 miles from the mouth of the Mississippi River. The Corps of Engineers keeps a 9 ft. channel dredged to keeping shipping lanes open from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. The river is 2300 ft across and 50 ft deep at Baton Rouge.
