No hotels, motels or B&Bs in Deville. The closest thing appeared to be some sort of rental apartment at Woodson's Landing, one of the fishing docks. Deville is in the middle between Alexandria/Pineville and Marksville, a half-hour's drive either way. So if you can't stay with relatives, you might want to consider Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville or Sleep Inn & Suites in Pineville. We stayed at the Hotel Bentley in Alexandria in 2002, but lately hotel rooms are hard to find because of activity at the local military bases. Be sure to call ahead for reservations!

Saline Bayou: The swamp right outside your window.
  • Satisfaction:
  • It feels great to get out and into nature. The mosquitos and other critters just love for you to visit. Just find a good campground spot or a friend with a houseboat and let the churping of crickets put you to sleep. Or the roar of the gators. My favorite is a houseboat. You're right out there on the bayou. It's harder for the varmits to get you. Easier for the snakes and gators though. If you prefer land, just find a good spot and pitch a tent. Don't worry, there aren't any lions or tigers or bears. Maybe a coon and a few panthers and coyotes.

Great views and it's very peaceful, except when the boats go by. Then youre rocking and rolling in your houseboat. And some critters like fish and snakes get washed up with you.
