we would make it a point to camping at least once a year at Kisatchie National Forest. We always had a blast.....We must return for another great camping trip. It is located southwest of Natchitoches.

Highlight of this trip: Shopping!!! After few days of whirldwind trip, finally, I got some relaxing moment to wonder around this lovely old town! The Historic District of Natchitoches, which includes more than fifty centuries-old buildings, and many antique shops. Really a pleasant place to shop around. But instead of something antique, I bought a chic dress for USD30, what a bargain!!! (^0^)

Outside of Natchitoches you see the very rural side of the Parish.

Cutting down the corn. We saw this guy chopping through the corn on the way down to Natchitoches. By the time we were on our way back north, the whole field had been chopped.
Cotton is harvested, or stripped, from its stalks by stripper harvesters that have rollers or mechanical fingers that remove the entire boll from the plant. Some regions use spindle pickers that pull the cotton from the open bolls with revolving barbed spindles.
Once harvested, the remaining seeds are removed from the cotton fibers by a device which he called a "gin" - short for engine which separate the seeds and the lint, using just about every part of a cotton plant.
The cotton seed is used as a high protein concentrate in baked goods. The seed is also crushed into oil for shortening and salad dressing, and the remaining meal and hulls are ground into animal feed and fertilizer.
Even the short fuzz on the seed, called "linters," provide cellulose for making plastics and explosives. The most important part of the cotton plant, is the fiber that has been ginned free of the "trash" such as burs, dirt, stems and leaves from the fields. The ginned fibre (or lint)is pressed together and made into bales of cotton that stand about five feet tall and weigh almost 500 pounds.
