When I walked into this place I said: “This is the place you go to write the great American novel.” It was ever so tacky in a good way. It had storm doors that lead out to the street. So you could be sitting in bed, and people just walk by you. It’s a bit naughty, and very cool. About one of the beds is this weird crown-with a mirror in it. That’s all I can say about that.

You cant beat the location: one block to the water, two blocks over to the Square, and two blocks up to Bourbon Street in the gay section. LOVE IT!

Blake, the manger, has several different types of rooms in this cute courtyard complex. He is a hoot too: I had a cold and was making all sorts of noise. He went in his office and came out with Sudafed and a Costco size (***ing huge) bottle of Bourbon and told me to take them together and it will knock it out of me. Whollyshit, that and maybe my last breath! They have cocktails in the courtyard every day at 5:00pm, included in the price. So he know I missed them and gave me the bottle!

Unit 2 is a 2 bedroom unit, and fondly refered to as the "Vatican." The bedroom on the right has a four poster gilded king-sized bed complete with mirrored crown and red velvet drapes draping from the crown. The Pope himself would be proud to sleep here. The left bedroom has a four poster queen-sized bed with sheer drapes. The bedroom floors are hardwood parquet and the living area and kitchen are imported St. Louis clay tile.

This unit is on the ground floor, and is entered into the living room from the courtyard. Both bedrooms have french doors covered by shutters that can open onto the street.

Unit 2 also has a loft with a full-sized bed above the kitchen, and a queen-sized sleeper sofa in the living room.

The sleeper sofa has a Seely mattress,
that claims to be as comfortable as a
regular matress...no "bar in the middle
    of the back" traditional sleeper!!

To the left, is the loft over the kitchen,
with the full size bed...fun place to sleep!

Slap bang in the middle of the French Quarter, this is Bed & 'Breakfast' with a twist...

Being in Nawlins, America's non stop 24hr party city, instead of breakfast you get served with premium alcohol!

That's right - here in party city the fantastic hosts dispense with that nancy breakfast rubbish and go straight for the alcoholic jugular with a daily "Open Bar Help Yourself" where you can help yourself to whatever you want!

It was crazy, every time we'd pass the office, Blake would be saying 'grab yourself some drinks', or 'oh, you've only got one - take another!'. He was practically giving the drinks away!

Blake was brilliant, there he'd be sitting in his office listening to jazz - that guy is so laid back I thought he'd fall off his chair! He was so helpful, knowing the answers to anything we needed.

The guest apartments are split over two buildings, the main one with the office and a beautiful courtyard area is at 612 St. Philip St and the other, with a smaller courtyard and a swimming pool is on the corner of St. Philip and Royal Sts.

We stayed at the second building in two different apartments and seem to have been incredibly lucky in our stay!

We arrived in the week after Mardi Gras and got the room from the helpful volunteers desk at the Railway Station (perhaps that is why it was so cheap!?) and got weekday rooms for $49.95 a night, which is way less than the off season prices and here we were in high season!!!

Not only that but our stay was going to overlap the weekend, and we found that he was fully booked and at any rate the room rates went up to $125. We started to look around for another place to stay and then the day we were supposed to leave, Blake said that the people in one room had cancelled and there was a free room again - and that he would charge us our weekday rate!!!

Blake - you are a star!!!

This place is one of the best places I have ever discovered! Great hosts, great concept, great accommodation and great location...!

Bed and Beverage consists of two traditional French Quarter buildings containing 21 self contained apartments - each is a real home away from home with all the mod cons!

We were lucky enough to sample two of the apartments, both in the second building.

The first was on the corner of the first floor complete with its own balcony. It was a lovely room, and sitting at the balcony with a huge platter of seafood and some 'beverages' watching the world go by was a real treat!

It was however very noisy as we were on a busy intersection and these idiots on their souped up harleys seemed to enjoy dragging up and down the streets in the small hours. The first day wasn't so bad as we were dog tired after our epic overnight Greyhound ride from Miami and slept anyway. The next night I barely got any sleep, but I did have a cold and one of the windows was cracked, letting the noise in...

The second room was a great split level loft apartment with tiny windows facing the street - you felt completely cocooned away from it all up here in your private little sanctuary! Best of all was that there was a bed in the raised loft part with a large window that looked out over the rooftops of the French Quarter towards the CBD - a great view and really cosy. Loved the leopard print bedlinen too... GRRR! :-)

The second building was also situated over a CC's coffee shop, which was a great place to relax and get whupped at chess by middle aged Eastern Europeans...

Bed And Beverage Guest Apartme: A funky taste of the French Quarter
  • Satisfaction:
  • Yowza! I loved staying here! I was with 4 girlfriends and I think a couple of them thought they were getting a Holiday Inn before we arrived. Boy were they surprised!
If you want to feel like you're "in" New Orleans, specifically a part of the French Quarter and not in a nondescript hotel in any city, usa, this is the place for you. Blake was a gracious host and very helpful with suggestions and of course, alcohol.

Very eclectic in decorating. Nothing much matched, which was great as far as I was concerned. We had a 3rd floor, 2 bedroom, balcony room which was just completely fabulous!
The maid service was kinda hit and miss, although with 5 women showering and getting ready for their day and evening, I gotta say there was no lacking in the hot water dept. 2 a/c's going day and night, so it was a nice refrigerated respite from the hot, muggy weather.
If you have a problem with rickety, narrow staircases though, request a ground floor room.

Bed And Beverage Guest Apartme: It felt like home....
  • Satisfaction:
  • I loved tis guesthouse!! A person can stay here and spend the same amount of money as a hotel, but have more room. I stayed on the 4th floor and it had a kitchen and a loft. It is also clean. The bathroom were a little outdated but that was the beauty of it.

It had a beautiful balcony facing Royal Street on the 2nd floor.

Bed And Beverage Guest Apartme: Best Place for a Group
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Bed and Beverage is like a B&B, but the beds are in comfortable old-fashioned French Quarter apartments and the breakfast is really booze around 4:00 PM. We were given so much refreshment that we did not need to go to a liquor store the whole weekend. The host was very friendly and gave great advice about places to go.

The doorways to the building were obviously designed for horses, but had modern conveniences such as an elevator. We had two bedrooms and a sleeper sofa living room. The kitchen was a bit small, but had a full size refrigerator. For five people this was a perfect set up. Our building had a pool in the courtyard, but it was too cold to go swimming.

It is comes out to about US$20 - US$40 per person per night.
