Dauphine House is a converted residence in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans. Owned and run by Karen Jeffries, Dauphine House boasts 3 charming rooms downstairs. There is always a breakfast basket in the room filled with fruit, muffins, pastries, etc. It is close enough to the French Quarter and the Riverfront Streetcar that it's easy to dive right into New Orleans, but far enough away from the craziness that a good night's sleep is easy to get. It is a quick walk to some fine neighborhood restaurants (Port o Call, La Peniche), and there is a Circle K just around the corner for all your convenience store needs. You can't stay there during Mardi Gras, though. My husband and I have 2 of the 3 rooms on a standing reservation, and a man from Philadelphia has the 3rd (and if he ever gives that up, we're taking that one, too). Any other time of year, I would HIGHLY recommend it.
Unique Quality: The most unique quality of this establishment is its owner, Karen Jeffries. She's awesome. If you're looking for a room like you'd find at a chain motel, then this is not the place for you. It's really more like you're staying in a friend's guest room here.
Directions: Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, just off Esplanade.
We've received the warmest (!) of welcomes in this B&B by Karen. Our room is very neat, beautifully decorated and very cool - thanks to the airconditioning. It is just between the Old Quarter and the upcoming Marigny, next to The Frenchmen Street, a happy neighbourhood, with a number of fine bars and restaurants. The trolley through the town stops just around the corner - but walking is also an option.
Unique Quality: Beautifully decorated room, very good breakfast. Small refrigerator, coffee maker and even a microwave.
Directions: Bourbonstreet cross Esplanade, turn left and - after the banana tree - left again.
