 Historic French Market Inn-
New Orleans, Louisiana by saccharinicity
Located right on Decatur Street and only a couple of blocks from Jackson Square, the Historic French Market Inn was in a prime location. Many restaurants are nearby, the river is just across the street and you are a good few blocks away from the loud rowdiness of Bourbon Street.
The service here I found to be great. Very friendly and accomodating, even down to the myterious cool cat in charge of managing the housekeeping tasks. He looked like he stepped right out of the Matrix movies.
The hotel has a very nice courtyard with fountains, tables and umbrellas. A very peaceful place to relax with a cool drink from the bar.
A note of warning, not all the rooms here have windows. Be sure to ask upon check-in if they have any available with windows. It was a bit stuffy and dark at times.
Also, be aware you are in a very old hotel. The accomodations are not for the ritzy clientel. It was perfectly fine for me and everything worked, but someone might not be thrilled that their lampshade has a tear in it. But hey, it's New Orleans...let it go.
I have read good and bad reviews about this hotel online, but all in all I have to say I found this place to be a great spot with great service.
I would return here again...but would get a room with windows.

This place is a real D..U..M..P.., A virtual landfill of dirt, stink, and grime. Some of the brochures we read described this place as a luxury hotel. It is not. It is a dump.
Evidently there are five parts to the hotel, and one room in five is said to be real nice. So if you make the mistake of making reservations for this dump, at least you have a one in five chance of getting a nice room. Good Luck. Regardless of the room you get, there is a 100% chance the amount you will be charged at checkout will be different from the rate you were quoted when making the reservations. Very strong unethical conduct on the part of the management of this place.
If you like to gamble, you have a 20% chance of a nice room, but you will pay the same for the dump. Don't expect to get moved to a nice room, they are always full up, or at least thats what you will be told.
Take it from someone who stayed there three days, DON'T DO IT. This is the first time I have ever booked thru Hotels.com and had to pay additional room charges when I checked out. Not the fault of Hotels.com, just unethical conduct on the part of the management of the hotel.
