French Quarter Hotel
We stayed at the Holiday Inn French Quarter on Royal St. for four days over the Halloween weekend. The Bell attendants are about the only sane people on the entire staff. They were knowledgable and very courteous and helpful. That is about the only good thing I can say. The rooms are not very clean, and when you speak to the housing staff, they do not understand you. We asked for extra towels, never got them. Our bathroom floor was dirty, we asked to have it cleaned, never got cleaned, had to make sure we always wore shoes in the room.. Twice I got a new TV remote and both of them had the same issue, no matter what button you pushed, it would just go down one channel. The security is non-existent, people can follow you up the elevator without a room key even though you have to use you key to activate the elevator. For the price you are paying, I would expect a much better value in that area. The restaurant next to the hotel is not part of the hotel but they provide services, and they are by far the slowest ever. There is never enough wait staff and food is not that great.
Unique Quality: Location is very good, one block from Bourbon Street.

Holiday Inn French Quarter - Great Location
It is close to walking all the sights we want to see. Plan on seeing Bourban Street, Cafe du Monde, Jackson Square and the Riverwalk.

Good Value
We had a King executive, which is very large. It had a sofa and cofee table. The 5:00 pm check in time is ridiculous. We had to wait around after our arrival because our room wasn't ready. The air conditioner was not the best, and the remote only changed channels, no matter what button you pressed, it changed channels!! The price 118.99, with a $20 breakfast included, was good. The linens on the bed are very nice. The location is wonderful, in the center of everything.
Unique Quality: No valet parking!

Good location, but Old Hotel!
This is an old Holiday Inn and it looks like it. They are working on dressing up the rooms on the mid-level floors, but I was on the 17't floor. The room I had looked a little threadbare.
The light switch by the door was covered by a blank plate. I had to leave other lights on to be able to see on entering the room. The air-conditioner ran continuously and never got cold, even though night time temperatures were only 70. The room had a living room with a couch and chair, but no table! It gave the room an empty room look, and there was no place to sit and put a coffeee down.
On the plus side, it was reasonable and the location superb. Would I recommend it, sure, but with an explanation.
Unique Quality: Great location, corner of Cannal and Royal!

Helpfulness
Holiday Inn Chateau Le Moyne
I returned to New Orleans in late August 2006. This time I decided to book a room on Priceline.com and for just $50 we got a very nice room at the centrally located Holiday Inn Chateau Le Moyne. Featuring a nice pool in the large central courtyard, along with free wireless internet, free newspaper, coffee service in the room, and some rooms with balconies over the street. Parking is by valet only and is just slightly more than average at $24 per day...in a well-lit, private, secured lot. Recently renovated in 2001, the hotel has 171 guest rooms on 5 floors. In the hotel you will find the Cafe Bienville restaurant and the Bienville Lounge, neither of which we tried...there is just too much nearby to waste time in the hotel!
Rooms typically range from $110 to $215 per night, depending of course, on the season and local events such as Mardi Gras.

(Relatively) Cheap Hotel in Great Locale
Quite a few of my friends have stayed here over the years, and all have agreed that it serves its purpose well. Just a minutes walk from either Bourbon St. or Jackson's Square, makes the locale great. It doesn't have the Bourbon St balcony that everyone wants, but if you can't swing that, then this is a great alternative.

Holiday Inn French Quarter. It...
Holiday Inn French Quarter. It quite served the purpose of sleeping had a a great location. Usually I can't afford the $200+ USD per night but it was New Years!
One thing that the Holiday Inn French Quarter at 124 Royal Street has is location. That is the only positive thing I can say about that property. Front desk personnel were slow, the shower was not cleaned (half used bar of soap and shampoo were the proof), on the second day our room did not get cleaned until after 5:00 pm, and the shower leaked through the wall and soaked a portion of the carpet and our belongings. Oh yeah, and there was a fire drill that caused us to walk down 18 flights of stairs only to find that it was a false alarm and hotel personnel were nowhere to be found and unapologetic.
Depending on what you're looking for... It's a great deal!

A group of 3 of us from Canada stayed at the Holiday Inn French Quarter from December 27-January 1. The location is fantastic, and for the price we paid, we really couldn't ask for anything more. Be careful when requesting a wakeup call though... we requested 3 and never received one (which made us late for our tours). And if you order room service from TGI Friday's, make sure you call them back to confirm that they received your order, or you may never get it! And if you plan to stay there, sign up for the Holiday Inn's Priority Club. You get a small welcome gift when you get there, and will get an upgraded room if available. Overall though, if you can get a cheap rate for this hotel, definitely stay there. The location can't be beat and the staff is pretty friendly.

Hi there,
We will be visiting New Orleans for a few days during the Mardi Gras celebrations. I just wanted some opinions on the Holiday Inn. I've been getting conflicting reports on how bad it is there. Can anyone give me their feelings or experiences about this hotel? I mean its a great location and you can't beat $300 for 3 nights.
Thanks

Check out the following web site, www.tripadvisor.com it is full of hotel reviews by previous guests. Just put in NeW Orleans in the destination search box, the next page will ask you if you want New Orleans, click on it and then on the next page scroll down till you see on the right, a box which says, read reviews of hotels.

We stayed there a few years ago. It was just fine, and for that price during Mardi Gras, I'd go for it.

Why are you conserned about the hotel? If you are going to stay at a hotel IN the French Quarter DURING Marti Gras, you are NOT going to get much sleep anyway, all you need to know is if the bathrooms are in good working order and how many steps it is away from the closest bar. $300 is a very good rate for that time frame.
Seriously, check out the reviews on Tripadvisor.com as mentioned in another post. But if you really plan to SLEEP during your stay, you may want to consider a hotel outside of the French Quarter.

We stayed there for the same rate. We were very satisfied. It was certainly nothing fancy, but incredibly adequate. It was clean and convenient, and well worth the very inexpensive price.
It pays to have a room on Bourbon Street. That way you don't have to pay for a drink to use a restroom. Just duck back to your room for a minute. ;0)
