Loved the Hotel Provincial
I am local to New Orleans and had a wonderful opportunity to stay at the Hotel Provincial. The rooms are quaint and cozy; and the staff is so friendly. Loved the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

This hotel was recommended to us by some friends. We were not interested in the cookie cutter hotel with chains across the country, we wanted the ambiance and flavor of New Orleans with a great location. The Hotel Provincial is located on Chartres, which is 2 bloocks up from the river and the french market. Everything in the french quarter is easily accessible. The hotel itself was furnished in antiques, although a little on the shabby side. Beautiful chandelier, wonderful antique bed, non working fireplace, small bathroom tucked into the room. No, it was not luxurious by any means but it was comfortable and served the purpose. The hotel had a beautiful courtyard with a fountain in the middle. Also I saw a very nice pool but has it was November, did not use it.They state they have a continental breakfast but all I saw was some muffins. All in all, though we enjoyed our stay.
Clean, quiet and couldn't be a better location. We were able to walk every where or get to the street cars. The staff was friendly and let us know which areas were not safe to walk at night.
Unique Quality: We loved the courtyard area. A couple of nights we brought our Hurricanes back and relaxed as we had the area to ourselves. The hotel is said to be haunted. Other than some strange photos our friends got from inside their hotel room, we didn't see any ghosts!
The staff is very friendly and helpful. Having parking on site is great. The valets are excellent. The rooms are excellent - this is not some cookie cutter Holiday Inn type place. Each room is special with its own taste and decor. This is like the old South. The furniture is not new, nor should it be. Get a room with one of the interior pools or away from the street. If you have a room on the main street (Chartres St.) you will hear the horses and tour guides. The rooms there are great, but not if you are a late sleeper. The main pool is very nice and large with a great courtyard. The location cannot be beat. They also have one of the finest (and expensive) restaurants in alll of NO. Rates vary during the week vs weekend.
Unique Quality: You are only a block away from the market and only two blocks from Bourbon St. (toward the end), but without the noise (except for the horse carriages). An easy walk to anything worth seeing in the FQ, and a quick drive to everything else.
The staff at this hotel was wonderful. Everyone was extraordinarily friendly and went out of their way to show us a good time. The rooms were a little creepy, because the buildings are something like 150 years old, but they were large and it sort of gives on an "interview with a vampire" feeling. But the plumbing was modern and that counts!
Unique Quality: I bet that this hotel would be a delight in the summer.. but this freezing weekend, I was not able to take advantage of the pool and the view of the Mississippi River just made me more cold!
The hotel is listed in the National Historic Registry, so it could be fun to imagine what all went on within its walls!

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary, May 2003. It was my wife's first time in "The BIG EASY". This hotel has charm and romance in all it's courtyards and pool areas. Walk around the grounds and explore this place. The location is great. It is less then 4 blocks from Bourbon St. and basically next door to the French Market. The only thing about this place, is that all the rooms vary significantly. Ask about the rooms when booking. Other than that, grab a drink nearby and relax. Hotel Provincial we will see you next year!
Arrived at the Provincial after a week in New York and my, what a difference - the hotel and the top end of Chartres St was so quiet!!!
We were right at the front of the hotel facing onto Chartres St and the only time we were disturbed was by some roadworks one morning. It's hard to believe the hotel's just two blocks from Bourbon St.
The hotel was fine - the room was clean, and despite it's olde worlde style the furniture was well kept. Met a guy in 'Nawlins' who described the Provincial as being the best night's sleep in the quarter and he's not wrong - the beds were probably the most comfortable hotel beds I've stayed in. The staff were polite and very helpful - no complaints.
This hotel was wonderful! Our daughter was married in the courtyard and it was absolutely beautiful. It was like stepping into a time warp or a page from a book. The staff (with the exception of one) was very nice.
We would definitely stay here again.
I stayed here for 5 nights and loved every minute. The hotel has a charm - ask for a room overlooking the courtyard if you can! The location of the hotel is fantastic - right in the heart of the French Quarter. I felt completely safe here - it was great to be able to walk to Bourbon St just a few blocks away!! Another great thing about this hotel is the valet parking - worth every penny as parking is otherwise a nightmare. Fab, fab, fab - if I ever return to New Orleans I shall be staying here!
My wife and I wanted to experience the Holiday Season in New Orleans. New Orleans is right up there with San Francisco and New York City as the 3 top destinations for the Holidays.
I booked the Provincial months ago after reading the reviews on this hotel. Out of all the reviews I read only two were not favorable. Why, I am not sure. The Provincial Hotel is what New Orleans is all about. It is an historical hotel with all the charm we expected. Right in the French Quarters, yet off the beaten path, we were able to walk to every site we wanted to visit. We chose not to rent a car. Something I think everyone visiting New Orleans should do. We loved the history, the charm, and the beautiful courtyard located right outside our door. The room was as historical and charming as the hotel, with the right mix of antiques and modern amenities. Every night we looked forward to going back to the hotel for rest and relaxation. Our hotel faced Chartres Street but we had no problem with that at all. It was nice to hear the horse (mule) and buggy rides come down the street. If you don't want to experience the true history of New Orleans stay at one of those modern, highrise hotels outside of the French Quarter. If you truly want to experience the true history and charm of New Orleans, stay at the Provincial.
