Can anyone recommend Dixie International Tours?

by cherylrf

I've been searching for tours and see that Dixie Tours New Orleans have a pretty comprehensive tour. Has anyone heard of this or taken one of the tours recently? Thanks.

I did not hear from anyone concerning this tour company so I went ahead and booked the tour. IT WAS FANTASTIC! The tour guide John was very knowledgable and nice to talk to. I'd recommend this tour for anyone wanting an overview of the city and gems that can only come from a "local".

Travel Tips for New Orleans

maybe once IS enough

Mardi Gras
it's fun, it's wild, it's long!!! if yu have never seen it - GO! then you decide if 2 weeks of drinking is your cup of tea.

Jazz Fest
Getting huge! Alway (ok, mostly) great weather - meaning hot & humid. Tons of music, local food, and fun! For around $20 to get in per day, and another $xx for food, and crafts, and yo can't beat it!

French Quarter Fest
The best deal in town. Fun (but not a drunk fest), warm, FREE, and very diverse. Check out this weekend - it's almost getting too big but it's great!

New Orleans Tip

by ranting

Ok, so it's December 31, 1998 and I'm driving across the country after a nightmarish X-mas trip to New England and am returning to CA. I'm alone, broke with only a gas card to sustain me and the car until I can get home. Realizing at this point that there is no way I'm going to be in CA to ring in the New Year I figure I will head to the biggest party I can find - so New Orleans is on the way. And that is how I came to ring in 1999 in New Orleans with the Texas Aggie football team - oh, they were there playing in some 'Bowl' game the next day.

Street performers

by acemj

Another highlight of my trip was the music. From the House of Blues to Preservation Hall to many of the bars on Bourbon Street, you'll hear the sounds blaring out onto the street as you walk by. Most of the performers here are extremely talented. What's more amazing is that even the street performers who are playing for your pocketchange are incredibly gifted musicians. You'll hear some of the best Jazz in the world in New Orleans, but you'll also hear great R & B, Rock-N-Roll, Blues, Cajun Music and Zydeco.

The Levy

by emilienoelle

When people first come to New Orleans they often ask what the large concrete wall is that runs along the riverfront. This wall is a levy, which is there in the event of a major hurricane to prevent the Mississippi from overflowing its banks and destroying the city which lies below sea level. As far as I know the levy has never been used so no one knows how it will work in the event of a dissaster. Let's hope that we never have to find out!
