1851 Inn on the Avenue

Wow. I've read the reviews of this place on other websites and never have I seen so many mixed opinions. One woman wrote that she was appalled by the hostess's communistic lectures. Someone else complained about the level of cleanliness. Other people complained of the small bathrooms. So here's my experience...

Our room was located at the very top of the B & B and did not have an ensuite bathroom. Our bathroom was in the hallway, however, and we had exclusive use of it. It was of good size and the only problem with it was that the tub tended to leak. My partner was jumped onto once because it leaked, but it really wasn't his fault. The hostess was a little on the odd side, but she was friendly and made an effort in inviting us out with her and her friends. The breakfast was fairly average-cereal and fruit and stuff, but since neither one of us are breakfast eaters we weren't upset about it. I thought the cleanliness level was fine. Nothing looking frayed or dirty. The best part was that the tram stopped right outside the door.

Here's the kicker...

One night we were in bed and I felt something on my head. I thought it was my partner's hand and didn't think anything about it until it ran across my face. Upon turning on the light we found it to be a giant cockroach. It must have come in from the air conditioning vent above the bed. It took us forever to kill it and really freaked me out. The hostess was appalled when we told her, although it wasn't her fault.
