not much damage by such a severe stormDamage inflicted by Hurricane Katrina
On August 29, 2005, my home city of Slidell, La, received a direct hit from category 5 Hurricane Katrina. Sustained winds in Slidell were significantly stronger than those felt in the devastated city of New Orleans. Slidell is northeast of New Orleans, on the Mississippi state line. Much of Waveland, MS, which borders Slidell on the southeast, was destroyed.
Only one photo was needed to show the damage done to my house by one of the most massive hurricanes in recorded history. A small section of my rain gutter was twisted by a falling tree branch. My back yard looked like a bomb was dropped on it, and the once famous Hanging Gardens of Hundwalder were virtually destroyed by falling trees and saltwater.
Most of my fellow citizens of Slidell were much less fortunate, and a few even lost their lives. However, we are well on our way to restoring our city. School resumes Monday, and High School football is once again part of our lives.
