Slidell was named for John...

Slidell was named for John Slidell, Louisiana attorney, Senator, and Ambassador. It's history dates to the lumber and brick industry located there on the rail road line. Now it is more of a suburb of New Orleans than an industrial town, although St. Joe Brick Works is still in operation.

Slidell is located 35 miles north of New Orleans, La. in the cross roads of three Interstate highways. The area is surrounded by beautiful water ways, swamps, and great fishing. Historically Native Americans camped along the Pearl River, named by them because the freshwater clams found there produce pearls.
