Blackwoods Campground by kazander Only one of 2 campgrounds actually in Acadia National Park, Blackwoods is really in the middle of it all, located in the center of the Loop road, though not accessable from it. Reservations are necessary as the campground is quite popular. It costs $20 a night. Your camping area will have a picnic table and a fire pit. You can get wood all over the island, most people sell it roadside. Often it is pay by the honor system and are about $3 a bundle. We liked to buy it just down the road at the Walls house, they also sold starter wood for 50 cents. In the summer, there are nearby bathroom facilities, which have electricity and sinks but bring your own soap and towels. There are no showers, but you can find pay showers (make sure you have some quarters!) right outside the campground. In the winter, camping is free, but there are only pit toilets. There are no hookups for trailers.
Quiet hours in the campground are from 10pm to 7am. You might want to keep this in mind if you are planning on being loud late at night.

simple but great value by richiecdisc We had planned on camping in the park but with temperatures dipping below freezing at night and a $20 camping fee, we opted for this great deal of a motel just on the edge of town in Bar Harbor.
It is a real family run place and very friendly owners make you feel right at home. I had stayed here years ago on my own and had a lackluster room so ask to see more than one room until you find one that is nice. Also, get one away from the main road to ensure a peaceful night's sleep. The rooms are simple but comfortable, heated and have cable TV. At $38 a night, it's tough to beat in Bar Harbor. Very simple accomodations, but clean and it has all that you may need. Even if you want self-catering It is also ideal as a starting point to get into the park. I think you can't get closer if you don't want to stay at Bar Harbour.
Heated Pool, Picnic Areas, Cable Tv, Air Conditioning, Heated rooms, Telephones.

The Big Red Rider near Blackwoods Campground by Cabana_Boy Managed by the National Park Service, this campground has 306 sites and is part of Acadia National Park. $20 per night for a tent site.
My tent site was less than a five minute walk to the Atlantic Ocean and set in a heavily wooded area of Pine and Birch trees... Beware, there are several large Raccoons that frequent the area (probably because people are feeding them). This was quite an enjoyable stay at the Acacia House in Bar Harbor outside of the Park. A young family owns this three story home. They make the stay very enjoyable and are rarely even seen unless we needed something. The want their guests to feel like they are at home and not at a B&B. Continental Breakfast is provided on the porch every morning.
The close location to downtown Bar Harbor (by foot) and Acadia NP.

Sunset View from our Campground by Stephen-KarenConn, 1 more photos There are two campgrounds in Acadia National Park: Blackwoods Campground and Seawall Campground. However, these campgrounds often fill up during the busy summer season. Karen and I camped for four nights at the nearby Lamoine State Park. From our campsite we had a gorgeous view across the bay to Desert Island and Acadia National Park. Lamoine State Park sits on 55 oceanfront acres and is a great choice for those who want to escape the crowds on Mount Desert Island. Amenities include camping and picnic areas, hot showers, a dock, boat access, and a pebble beach. Fishing is allowed.

We LOVED this place. It's not fancy but the grounds are lovely and quiet, and the rooms large, very comfortable and squeaky clean. It's not quite a mile out of Bar Harbor and the quad units are scattered around 14 carefully landscaped acres. The owners, Dick and Claudia, are very cheerful, accomodating people who care that your stay is a great experience. The rooms have either one or two double, queen or king beds (I booked a double queen for maximum space during our week stay) and they have a few family units with two bedrooms. The rooms have air conditioning, color TV, phones, refrigerators, hair dryers and irons/boards. All have a small covered porch with chairs outside (family units open onto a large communal patio). There's no coffeemakers and no cooking allowed in the rooms but the pot is on in the lobby all day. There's also laundry facilities, bike storage lockers, a playground and a heated outdoor pool. Our room ran $108 per night - not at all expensive by area standards. The large, detatched lobby is full of informational materials to help you plan your visit, as well as a binder of area restaurant menus. They don't have an on-site restaurant but there's a steak house/microbrewery next door and downtown Bar Harbor restaurants are just a stone's throw away. The motel is also on the Island Explorer Shuttle route (in season). This was (when we booked) the #1-rated Bar Harbor accommodation on Trip Advisor - will definately be back.
Very clean and managed by nice people who care. Nicely manicured grounds and most units are far enough off the highway to be quiet at night. Everything in the room worked, the beds were comfortable and the shower had good water pressure. We found it a great place for grownups but it would also be perfect for families as the pool, playground and large amount of open spaces are a plus for active youngsters. It's also not far from the Hull's Cove entrance to Acadia N.P.. At Bar Harbor prices, it's a real find! the morn by chodearm The engine was exhausted as we pulled up to the campsite window. Black Woods was a oasis of quiet sleep after a grueling drive straight from Cape Cod on Hwy. 1, scenic but long. Administered by the National Park system Black Woods lives up to its name, the darkness that hugs our sight was inpenetrable. Much needed sleep was sought after hallucinations were impairing my driving. I painted a silouette of a huge deer staring me down on the yellow double center line, I footed the brake pedal. The night sounded of chirps and buzzes of various insects, with constant drips tapping the tent from the foggy buildup on leaves overhead. Any form of light was attacked with a sfumato effect from the thick nightly fogs, so closeness to bathroom facilities were of no dilemma. The campsite has great coodinates for reaching Acadia's main sites, all within a few minute drive.
Showers, if you wish, sit just outside the campsite boundries, waiting for 4 quarters to give you four minutes of hot water.

It's a beautiful hotel, with spacious, clean rooms. The rates were fairly reasonable compared to others in the area. It has it's own Lobster Pound on the grounds. Best of all, it's only minutes from the park. However, they had a short in the fire alarm the night we were there that set things off at 2:00 in the morning and went on for an hour. Everyone evacuated. What is most upsetting is there was no apology from management the next morning. Just a "Sorry you were woken up last night" would have been nice. Ruined an otherwise pleasant stay.

Kayaks at Goose Cove Lodge by worldtrekker From the beach you can take out a kayak for a paddle around the cove and if you like, venture further into the bay and surrounding islands. There are also hiking trails and mountain bikes for your use. For guests, use of the kayaks and mountain bikes is free of charge. I honestly felt that the quality of the mountain bikes was poor. They aren't maintained and are left outside under an open air wooden structure. I chose to rent in Bar Harbor instead of using these freebies... It's possible that most guests don't use the bikes, but since they are on offer from a place like this which is not cheap, I feel they should be maintained. The kayaks were in good order however.
