We stayed in Freeport which is...
We stayed in Freeport which is about 15 min drive to Boothbay. Both Freeport and Booth bay have a number of B&B hotels as well as Hotels to pick from . The time of year we went most were not open 'season' dosn't start until April 25 for most and some not until memorial day.But we did get a room at Coastline Inn
Overlooking the bay
This is a very quaint Inn situated right on the bay. The rooms are nothing to rant and rave about, but probably the best location of the limited amount of hotels in the area. Very accomodating staff who are very accomodating. All and all a very pleasant trip. As this is only a 3 story building, try to get a room on the third floor closest to the water, the views are amazing! Resaturant (with some of the best lobster around), in house bar, valet parking

If you're planning a trip around fall for foliage around the Bar Harbor or Acadia National Park area, make sure you have reservations. On one drive up to Bar Harbor it totally slipped our minds that foliage was peaking up there and there were no rooms available anywhere. We had to drive two towns back to find a half decent motel...at 1am! I was too tired I didn't even remember what the room looked like. Doesn't matter which of the B and B's or hotels you're booked in...the best way to see everything is by walking and hiking.
Right outside of downtown
The 1st night we stayed in Bar Harbor, the goal was to stay in downtown. When we came back, we didn't mind being slightly removed and closer to Acadia National Park because we had to get up early (or were supposed to) and we were just going to Acadia the next morning. The change in price being about 1/4 mile removed from downtown is incredible...this hotel was cute. Only one floor, a little porch, some hanging flowers, kept up very well. There really wasn't anything that set it apart from other hotels except they still use real keys rather than the magnetic cards:) I did like how it was away from the others and if I had a family, it would be my choice in the future. It was decorated very well...made you feel more at home (granted in a really small home) than in a hotel room.

The coast is dotted with lighthouses. In summer be sure to make reservations in advance, the hotels and B and B's fill up fast.
