Great stay in Bar harbor
by TripAdvisor Member shoshanna-rose
We stayed at the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel for three nights. We decided to get their package deal and it was a terrific deal. Our room was huge - five windows - and the location was great - right in the middle of town. The service was wonderful. The people at the desk were friendly, helpful and unaffected (I hate when you have toity attitude at some expensive hotels - no worries here).
We also got two wonderful meals at the Bar Harbor Inn. Just a fabulous weekend. We would definitely stay there again.
No Hassle Vacation

We just returned from a four day stay at the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel. Our stay there met all our expectations, plus. The location was perfect - walking distance to everything in town, but not in the hustle and bustle of Main Street. The room was spacious and immaculate; the pool appropriately heated; the expanded continental breakfast more than adequate; and the coffee/tea 24 hours a day a Godsend!
We had the getaway package which included two dinners at the Bar Harbor Inn - choices were unlimited and delicious - a ride on a 24 ft. schooner around Frenchmen's Bay and a $20 gift certificate to their gift shop. To our surprise, upon our arrival we also received a L.L.Bean beach bag - a nice touch from a class act hotel.
This was our first trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park - a great place to visit in July when everyone in New York was sweltering, we had to wear jackets at night!
Highly recommend this lovely hotel, great position, wonderful staff.

Spent 5 nights in the Grand Hotel, Bar Harbor during our tour of New England whilst on vacation from Scotland. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff, eager to help and happy to see us. We were amazed at the size of our room, it was one of the biggest hotel rooms we have had anywhere, it had 2 queen beds and a fold down sofa bed, fridge, tv and dvd. There was a huge shower room (but no bath). The beds were very comfortable and we could find no complaints about the room at all. There was free coffee/tea available at the dining area 24 hours per day. The pool area was very clean and the water was a wonderful temperature. Free parking facilities and the hotel was situated in a wonderful location, very handy for the main shops and restaurants, able to walk to the harbour area in less than 10 minutes. Within short driving distance of the wonderful Acadia National Park. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody and would love to return here.
Go For It.

My wife, teenage son & I stayed here for 2 nights & thought this was above average. The location is perfect. It's right downtown, a short block or two from the shopping & restaurants. The rooms were a good size & decorated well. The bathroom was spacious. They use soap & shampoo dispensers & our shampoo dispenser did run out of shampoo. The pool is outside & covered by shade. The breakfast is just your average continental breakfast. I would recommend eating breakfast at Jeannie's Breakfast Restaurant on Cottage St. All in all, we would stay here again.
Beautiful Hotel BUT not HELPFUL With issues!

The hotel is pretty, rooms large in size. We called though to book our stay and told them it was for our 25th anniversary and we wanted a QUIET nice room, we were put right over the KITCHEN! at 5 am we were woken by LOUD CONSTANT BANGING under us from them setting up the continental breakfast. I called the front desk and got not even an apology. NOTHING WAS DONE. They did not offer a change of rooms, a discount, nothing!!! I even asked the general manager be informed and left a note, still NOTHING! It was also on a busy street and we were put right at the busy street side, there were other quieter rooms empty so apparantly our request for a nice quiet room to celebrate our 25th was ignored, not good service and I would not recommend this hotel unless you don't care about noise and what you're given. One other note, you get no bar soaps, only gel in a hand dispenser in the tub and by the sink, it made my husband itchy all over so if you go there bring your own soap. The pool is not as large as in the photo either, its very tiny, and in the parking lot.
Not a good experience overall.

The desk staff was friendly and the location was convenient. However, there were stains in the tile grout and on the wall in our bathroom. We decided to check out a day early.
Wonderful Stay

While the hotel is not a 5 star hotel, it is not meant to be. The room was sunny, clean, nicely appointed and comfortable. The bed was firm and the bathroom new, albeit not luxuriously appointed. Breakfast was fresh and plenty for a morning of hiking and a wait to get an outside table at Jordan Pond for a bowl of lobster chowder and a pop-over. The laundry facility was clean and came in handy. The Bar Harbor Grand is a perfect launch to days of hiking in Acadia (just around the corner from the park shuttle) and a nice dinner in town (Havana and Mama Dimmateo should not be missed). Abbey at the front desk was impeccable; her advice was always spot on and her attitude sincerely cheerful. Our only complaint (and one shared by others) - the hotel may consider investing in better towels. Otherwise, a wonderful stay.
Two Bedroom, One Bath - Clean, Comfortable, Good Value

My wife and I stayed here along with my brother and his wife the weekend after Labor Day. We were not disappointed. We booked a 2 Bedroom Suite, the rooms were clean and large. The bathroom was nice and large and very clean. We don't like using liquid soap in the shower which is what they supplied but other hotels do this as well, so we have learned to always bring our own soap and shampoo that way it does not upset us.
The location is perfect for walking to the downtown shops and the free parking is worth a lot.
The pool is not so small, but the hot tub is only a 4 person and we do not recommend turning on the "Air Jets". We did this and had to turn them off due to the chemicals in the water were being released into the air and made it hard to breath. We would stay here again the front desk staff was very helpful and pleasant.
Breakfast is starts at 6:30am and coffee is ready before then. We loved this fact, we hate hotels that do not serve Breakfast or Coffee until 7:30 or later.
Very nice!

This hotel was comfortable, accomodating, and convenient to downtown Bar Harbor! We had planned to stay at the Holiday Inn, but after we found that to be such a crushing disappointment, we found a very nice room here, and will definately return!
Very nice

We stayed there last week and enjoyed it very much. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was typical muffins and cereal type.
The front desk was very helpful in suggesting activities and restaurants. Easy to walk to the shops and the waterfront.

A mountain in Bar Harbor
by rkid21
Does anyone know if there is a name for the mountain that you can see from Main Street in Bar Harbor? (You can see it from the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel.) It is located on the opposite side from the Bar Harbor Marina. Is that Cadallac Mountain?
Thank you!

Yes, it's Cadillac Mountain, at 1532 feet.

If you look south from Main Street while standing in front of the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel, you will see Champlain Mountain. If you're upstairs in The Grand and looking west, you might be able to see Cadilac Mountain. I don't know if the building is tall enough to see Cadilac from there.
