More about Bass Cottage Inn
Great Bed & Breakfast
The Bass Cottage Inn was a great place to spend our vacation. My husband and I were extremely pleased with the service and the room. The place is beautiful and the breakfast was incredible. We will definitely recommend the Bass Cottage Inn to all our friends.
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful vacation in Maine. And the Bass Cottage Inn played a large part in our enjoyment. Everything was perfect. Jeff and Teri have done a beautiful job of restoring the Inn---its beautiful in a classy, understated style.
And the food! Each breakfast choice is more delicious than the last. And then there are the afternoon "goodies". Oh yes-- and then the wine and hors 'd oerves at 6:00. Jeff, stop!!! The Bass cottage Inn is absolutely first rate from beginning to end. Trust the Inn's recommendations for excursions and restaurants, too. We did and every one was perfect. Other inns and innkeepers could learn quite alot from the Bass Cottage Inn.
Excellent bed and breakfast
We spent two nights at Bass Cottage Inn and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The place is clean, restored and decorated to a high standard and in a brilliant location.
The breakfasts are delicious and hot and cold drinks are always available.
The host was friendly and helpful and the server at breakfast was delightful.
Best B&B I have ever visited!!!!
My husband and I started out our Maine vacation at the Bass Cottage Inn...I had really done my research on where we should stay...and the reviews were outstanding for this establishment. We were not disappointed. We were greeted at check in and we were given the tour. We stayed three nights...and enjoyed the evening wine/visiting time. Another big plus...we didn't have to move our car to go to dinner!!! We could walk all over the downtown area from the inn...it was in a great location! We loved the wonderful breakfast! Overall this was the highlight of our Maine trip!
A place that lives up to the marketing...
My husband and I were looking to stay someplace special to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Having always wanted to see Acadia National Forest, we decided to stay in Bar Harbor to celebrate. Looking at tripadvisor.com reviews, we decided on the Bass Cottage Inn and we were definitely not disappointed in our choice! I was impressed by the inn's website and then even more impressed by the service when I booked our room. The booking process was easy and all our questions were answered quickly by the innkeeper.
I hoped that the B&B itself measured up, and it did! We had a wonderful 4 day stay at the Bass Cottage Inn. Our immaculate room was very spacious and tastefully decorated (not that overdone "chintz & prints" theme at so many other B&B's). It had so many wonderful extras -- from a whirlpool tub to a built-in gas fireplace which warmed the room quickly. No detail was missed -- from the terrycloth robes hanging on the back of the bathroom door to the chocolates left on the pillow every night at turndown service.
The breakfasts were hearty and delicious and the service was warm and gracious. The owner was always available, but not at all overbearing. The common areas of the inn were nothing short of spectacular. Even though the inn underwent extensive renovations in 2003, the character of the original home (built at the turn of the century) was still very much alive in the breathtaking original stained glass windows, rich wood paneled sitting area and pantry, intricately carved staircase and large porch. Even in the common areas, wonderful touches abound. There was a large library of books and DVD's to borrow (each room has cable/DVD player), delicious homemade snacks were available every evening and there was cold soda and water available all day. Self-service coffee and tea were set out at 7am every day for early risers. The best attribute of the inn, however, is the quiet serenity of the place. Even though it is just a block off the main road and near other lodgings, the inn was wonderfully quiet and peaceful. This was a wonderful, unexpected surprise to us!
Are there downsides? Yes, but only two in my opinion. The Inn is not oceanfront, which is a slight drawback in a place with such a dramatic coastline. That said, however, the shore walk is just a short distance away and Acadia is also only a short car ride away. The Inn is a bit pricier than other accommodations in the area, but the extra $ was worth it to us for the wonderful location, first-class service and multiple amenities.
Would I recommend the Bass Cottage Inn? My answer is "YES!"
We loved it and would stay there again in a heartbeat -- we hope to make a return visit soon!
Absoluting Amazing!!! - The best B&B experience
My husband and I stayed at the Bass Cottage Inn on a much needed get-away for just the two of us. We read the good reviews on trip advisor, and even though it was pricier than some, we are SO glad we decided to splurge. The whole property is amazing and has a really luxurious feel without being stuffy. The common areas are richly appointed, and the rooms are tastefully and comfortably furnished - no detail has been overlooked!!!! We loved the 24 hour guest pantry stocked with beverages and snacks, especially the fresh baked cookies. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the gourmet breakfasts were delicious! We'll definetly be back at this inn for our next Bar Harbor vist.
Have already gone back!
We enjoyed a 5 night stay at the Bass Cottage Inn in July. We found it by reading rave reviews on TripAdvisor, and we also liked the inn’s website.
The innkeeper Jeff was an extremely friendly, obliging and gracious host. He was a tremendous professional and was very helpful with recommendations for restaurants, tips for good hikes in Acadia, and other things to do.
The inn itself was stylishly and tastefully decorated, with beautiful hardwood floors in the common areas and comfortable furniture that actually invited guests to sit and relax around the house. We appreciated the lack of fussy, claustrophobic quasi-Victorian décor, which seems to be obligatory with a New England B & B. (Floral prints were notably absent.) Wicker rocking chairs on the enclosed porch were an especially nice place to relax after a day of hiking, with a cup of coffee. The 24 hour guest pantry was always stocked with fresh hot coffee, drinks, and homemade cookies (snickerdoodles and the devil’s chocolate cake cookies were our favorites).
Wine and hors d’oeuvres were served in the evenings on the front porch (and were constantly replenished). These evenings were an unexpected highlight of the visit, as we were lucky to meet a lovely couple from Australia at the inn. We would meet on the porch every evening for a nice drink and share the day’s stories with other guests and our hosts.
The room was compact, but had sufficient storage and a good sized bathroom. The room was very comfortable and tastefully decorated, with down pillows, soft sheets, very nice bath products, and fluffy towels.
Another outstanding aspect of our stay was the breakfast service each morning. Jeff, and the server, Martina, were always friendly and welcoming. The three course breakfast was unbelievable – lobster quiche, cappuccino muffins, cherry sour cream waffles, rum French toast were just a few favorites. The coffee was strong and refills were promptly offered.
We have traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe and have to say that we were very impressed by the level of service and accommodation we received at Bass Cottage Inn. This was definitely one of the nicest inns in which we have stayed. When we return to Bar Harbor, we will stay at the Bass.
My husband and I stayed here for only one night. The Inn was a beautiful place and the attention to detail was excellent. The host greeted us at the door and showed us around. The guest pantry was great with fresh coffee, tea, sodas, water and brownies. The common areas were very inviting with lots of reading material. Our room was lovely. The bed was very comfortable. There were plenty of towels in the bathroom. Breakfast was a treat and we hated to leave to catch a plane home. We certainly saved the best for last.
My husband and I stayed at the bass cottage for 4 nights in May 2006 and couldn't have hoped for a more enjoyable stay. Everything was wonderful -- too many great things to list. Highly recommend, would definitely stay there next time we travel to Bar Harbor.
Delicious Food, Perfect Location, Gorgeous Interior!
The inn is located in the heart of Bar Harbor (one of Maine's many scenic towns). We were amazed by the beautifully renovated interior, delicious and unique foods served, and tastefully decorated room. This was the best inn we've stayed at so far. You must take the scenic stroll along the coast, "It's the way life should be".

Dog Friendly Accommodation
We are planning a trip to Bar Harbor for a week from September 10th and are taking our labrador with us.
We have come across some camping sites that accept dogs but also would like to know if there are any inexpensive motels/hotels that accept well-behaved dogs?
Also, are there any beaches that allow dogs to run off the leash?
Any help much appreciated.

Re: Dog Friendly Accommodation
Back from Maine and had a wonderful time. We stayed at Spruce Valley Campsite near Arcadia National Park. Lots of coves in Arcadia where dogs can run leash free. Also stayed at Ocean View Campsite on Popham Beach. Superb beach where again dogs (lots of them!) could run leash free.
