The Perfect Honeymoon Retreat
by TripAdvisor Member mmsks
Lucky us!!! We got married and stayed at the Saltair all in the same week! The Saltair is the place to stay in Bar Harbor and Matt and Kristi are the perfects hosts for a perfect time. The Saltair's location on the water - one of only a very few in town - makes the scenery (along with Kristi's cooking) the ideal vacation/honeymoon spot. We stayed in the Master Suite and loved every minute of its luxury, comfort, and spaciousness. Everything in town was within easy walking distance and we loved feeling a part of the beautiful little town. We recommend the Saltair wholeheartedly. Bob and Margaret, Charleston, SC

We just returned from 4 nights in the Acadia Suite at the Saltair Inn as a 30th anniversary treat to ourselves. The huge bed faces a cozy see-through fireplace that also serves the seperate sitting room which overlooks the sloping lawn and Frenchman's Bay. The oak bed is high off the floor and the linens were lovely. Views of Frenchman's Bay were gorgeous anytime of day and the stars are amazing at night! We sipped tea on the balcony or deck and relaxed watching the blue water and boats! The bathroom has a small shower, large claw foot tub for soaking and another fireplace that turns on with the push of a button-- wonderful! Innkeepers Matt and Kristi make you feel like old friends and the breakfast was great-- especially Matt's blueberry pancakes, the eggs benedict, and the three fruit shortcake. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are always available, plus cookies in the afternoon. Matt and Kristi have great advise on what to see and do and a parlor stocked with books, brochures, and menus. It is a short stroll into Bar Harbor for the shops, restaurants and whale watch cruise. Acadia National Park is just a few miles away. We had such a wonderful time and would highly recommend the Saltair Inn for your Bar Harbor vacation.
Good but not Excellent

The setting and view is Georgeous. The breakfast was average - nothing special. The room was quite nice with a good view. I went to plug in a radio and noticed "more than average" dirt / dust under the dresser. Noticed other "details" like this also like holes repaired in the walls but not finished well. Cookies in the afternoon were also "OK". Owners dress kind of below average and there is not much separation from the owners family (which have kids) and the shared part of the home. Husband was quite friendly and the wife was less friendly. Overall, not bad but in this price range, I expected more. Wine and cheese would be a nice suggestion for the evening.
I would have rated it average but the view kicked it up 1 notch. I tried to be as honest as possible and I hope the owners read this to make some minor improvements.
Excellent! Wonderful View, Perfect Location, Great Innkeepers
by TripAdvisor Member thetravelingMimi
This was our fourth visit to Bar Harbor and probably the best. We stayed with them for three days and loved everything about the Saltair. The Inns location is in close walking distance to the hub of Bar Harbor and the view from the inn overlooking the harbor is wonderful. Our room was beautifully decorated and squeeky clean. Kristi and Matt were very helpful, personable and great hosts. Breakfast was always more than we could possibly eat and coffee was always awaiting us in the mornings. We hope to return soon.
Romantic weekend getaway

We visited for 2 nights for our 10th wedding anniversary. Kristi and Matt were great - down-to-earth and extremely personable AND also willing to go the extra mile to make things perfect. They had great info on local stuff - including restaurants and outings for Acadia NP. We stayed in the "cheap" room (without the water view) but LOVED IT! The fireplace and decor made it comfy/cozy, but we still found the separate bath and hall made it seem like a spacious suite! We got a chance to view the "master suite" and plan to return for the royal treatment! The meals were excellent, and all the guests were friendly. We have stayed in several different B & B's in Bar Harbor, and this surely is our favorite. We will definitely be back.
Great Weekend Getaway!

We stayed in the Master Suite for 3 nights and had an incredible time. The hosts were great, and gave us great advise on what to see and do. They were easy to talk to and also respected our privacy. We really did not even know they were home most of the time and it seemed like they went out of their way to let us relax. We had not stayed at a bed-and-breakfast before, so we were a little apprehensive about staying in someone's home, but we could not have felt more comfortable.
We had some rainy weather for the first day, but the room was so relaxing, we really didn't care. The view of Frenchman's Bay from our front room with a fireplace was perfect.
I don't think there is one thing we would have changed about the accommodations or the location. We were close to town and Acadia Park.
After we spent some time there, we felt we made an excellent choice on where to stay in Bar Harbor, and when we go back we will schedule our trip for when there is an opening in The Saltair.
The Master Suite is the nicest room and well worth the extra cost, but we looked at the other rooms and they would be great also.
Breath of fresh air....Saltair Inn
by TripAdvisor Member Huffdog
We just spent two wonderful days and nights in Bar Harbor. We had a great time that was in large part due to our fine Innkeepers at the Saltair. They have a wonderfully restored home right on the water that is just a few blocks from the shops of Bar Harbor. We walked everywhere because the location of the Inn was so good. The setting was wonderful. The food and the room were both excellent. Additionally, Matt and Kristi offered great advice on things to do, things to avoid and how to get there.
This was a great time at an excellent Inn that I highly recommend.

Could it be any more perfect?

On our last night at the Saltair Inn, my wife remarked that she would give up all earthly possessions just to live in the Saltair Inn. She was only half joking. We went there for our honeymoon and it couldn't have been more incredible. When we arrived, Matt and Kristi immediately struck us as friendly, real and down to earth. They upgraded us to the Master Suit and showed us around the property. Even though the Master Suit was unbelievable, the other rooms looked amazing as well. During our two days we soaked up the sunshine streaming into the sitting room overlooking the picturesque Frenchman Bay and Bar Island, made ample use of the fireplaces and whirlpool, and immensely enjoyed the hot chocolate and afternoon oatmeal cookies or cinnamon cake. When we worked up the motivation to go outside, we discovered tons of high quality shops, fantastic restaurants and the spectacular Acadia National Park, where we went both hiking and biking (with a rented bike from a store 2 blocks away). By the time we left, we were already planning our trip for next year. We can't wait to go back. Thanks Matt and Kristi!!!
Best B&B I've ever experienced
by TripAdvisor Member tchaby
I just spent 3 nights of my honeymoon at the Saltair and Matt and Kristi ensured everything was perfect! To start our room was the nicest, most comfortable room I ever experienced. Super comfortable bed, extremely clean, & great fireplace. The views from our room were wonderful with the leaves still providing vibrant colors to the ocean blue backdrop with multiple islands in view. Every detail was captured at the Saltair, outstanding service, delicious food and great advice on local activities. Our visit to the Saltair was during the "off season" (November 3-5), my wife and I felt it was the best time to be in Bar Harbor. The crowds were low & hiking weather was perfect. I am recommending the Saltair to all my friends and family & we intend to visit again soonest.
