More about Camden Maine Stay Inn
My husband and I are world travelers and usually stay at the Ritz or Four Seasons. Experiencing the Maine Stay on our recent trip to the East Coast has given us a new perspective on Inns. The Maine Stay is a beautiful experience from the moment you arrive. Bob and Juanita Topper could not be better hosts. The Inn is in immaculate condition. The rooms have every amenity you could hope for, the gardens are beautiful, and the warmth exudes from the walls. We always require special food due to health issues, and the Toppers went out of their way to accomodate all our requests. The breakfast served to us every morning, was lovingly prepared with fresh local ingredients. Our room was so comfortable, we hated to leave. I don't think other Inns could possibly live up to these standards, so we will keep the Maine Stay at the top of our list!
The perfect spot in Maine , located in the historic district and the second oldest house...but wait , it is impecably maintained and in a beautiful setting with lovely gardens and attentive innkeepers....Bob and Juanita are what hospitality is all about...they make you feel at home from the moment you arrive...we have traveled many banb's and this is one of the best, enjoy!
Best Inn in Camden
My wife and I have stayed at this wonderful inn many times in the past with both these Innkeepers and the Smiths prior to them. This is very clearly the best inn in Camden. Immaculately clean with wonderful hospitality. The rooms are charming, and despite a prior comment, are air conditioned. The breakfast, served in both the dining room and the sunroom overlooking the lovely gardens, is superb. Bob and Juanita, who are a charming couple, and very married, make this Inn a special and inviting respite. We highly recommend it when traveling the Coast of Maine.
Toppers top our list of our favorite B&B's!
This was our first visit to Camden, Maine and we were in for such a lovely surprise! From the moment we drove through this quaint little town and pulled into the Camden Maine Stay Inn we knew we had picked a winner! Before going inside this lovely B&B we took a quick tour of the beautiful gardens that we had read about on the website. Juanita Topper, one of the incredibly warm and welcoming Innkeepers was outside and gave us a grand tour! She personally planted and takes care of most of the garden and told us about her future plans which were incredible! Then we toured the beautiful house and fell in love with each incredibly decorated room, which was prettier than the next! The whole time we could smell something WONDERFUL baking in the oven! Was it those Lemon Squares or the Date Nut Bread that called out to us? YUM! :-) We met Bob Topper in the kitchen who welcomed us as though we were family! All of the employees were also very warm and friendly! Our room was lovely and spacious and there were so many personal touches that made us feel as though we were home. Both Juanita and Bob were so gracious in helping make our visit to Camden an adventure! We definitely will go back again and again! We would LOVE to see how they decorate their beautiful B&B for the holidays! We can only imagine!
What a gem!
Our expectations were greatly exceeded by our wonderful stay and the Camden Maine Stay Inn in early August. This historical old "mansion" has been renovated and refreshed with respect for tradition but with modern comfort in mind. Every gleaming surface has a genuine feel about it with bookcases full of literature on Maine tourism as well as a generous dose of fiction and non fiction.
Our host, Bob Topper, was the perfect gentleman host. We were running late the day of our check-in and he patiently guided us from Freeport via a shortcut and suggested the perfect spot for dinner. Upon arrival at the Inn our keys were waiting for us and as we descended the stairs to our room, we had the feeling that we were in for something special. Classical music greeted us from a discretely hidden CD player as we took in the muted blue tones, paned windows covering two walls, a pot bellied stove, ample closet space, generous bathroom full of fluffy towels and quality toiletries, sofa and chairs and beautiful adjacent stone patio with table and chairs overlooking the flower-filled garden. We chose the Carriage Room at Karen Brown's suggestion and were not disappointed. It provided complete privacy and was the perfect retreat.
The Inn is within easy walking distance to town (a coveted location indeed) and we only used the car once in three days. All of Bob's activity and restaurant suggestions were honest and spot on. The staff at the Inn were all warm and welcoming and the kitchen and living rooms were always available making it feel like a true home. Breakfasts were gourmet events always beginning with fresh juice - try the "sunrise" with orange and cranberry juice mixed together, tea or coffee. The breakfast room was overlooking the spectacular garden. We were treated to delicious French Toast with fresh berries one day and cheese with chili fritatta and sausage - yum! Homemade cookies, coffee and tea were available every afternoon. This was the perfect respite at the end of the day.
Camden is the quintessential harbor town with a palatial library overlooking the village green, lobster boats and charming shops. Despite the fact that we live in California, we hope for annual visits.
An outstanding Inn
Camden Mainestay Inn is unique.
The Innkeepers -- Juanita and Bob Topper -- are urbane, delightful, and dedicated to making one's stay as pleasant as possible.
The inn itself, which is furnished and maintained immaculately, makes everything possible. The rooms are all different, with their own idiocyncrasies to enjoy. Ours, the 'Common Ground,' was mightily spacious, with book shelves (stocked), and a high gable ceiling, within which was a large skylight. It was complemented by a porch accessed by french doors that overlooked the gardens, which are constantly being expanded and updated by Juanita, who has made them her own very special domain. And, Juanita's delicious breakfasts make returning home to ordinary fare seem like a punishment!
We left reluctantly, having made friends with the Toppers. Originally, we hadn't thought of returning again to Maine in the foreseeable future. Now we're sure we'll return next year. And, of course, to Camden and the Mainestay Inn.
The Ultimate Bed & Breakfast Experience
Whether you are new to the B&B scene, or are frequent B&B travellers, it just doesn't get any better than the Maine Stay in Camden, Maine. Bob and Juanita Topper have discovered the formula for the ultimate B&B experience - a beautiful building in a charming town, convenient location, exquisite taste and style, unmatched attention to detail in every respect (cleanliness, neatness, operations, etc.), and just plain friendly, down-to-earth warm hospitality. And did I mention the delicious breakfasts?
My wife and I have stayed in dozens of B&Bs, in the US and abroad, and we can say without reservation that the Maine Stay sets the pace the rest could only hope to match.
Don't change a thing, Bob and Juanita!

Unconditionally in love !!!
We're just in love with this place. It was our first experience in a B&B and it surpassed all of our expectations. It’s neat, cozy, and warm and feels like home. We stayed in the Dogwood room, which was actually bigger and nicer than it appears in their website. The Toppers were always very friendly and willing to fulfill our requests, which were very few because everything was just perfect. Bob looks like a perfect British butler with his untouchable politeness while Juanita fills up the place with her sympathy and her Austrian touch. The breakfast in the porch is a special moment, not only for the delicious gourmet food prepared by Juanita but also for the atmosphere. We can’t forget the homemade cookies with hot tea waiting for us in the afternoon. What else we could say? We’ll be back for the winter.

We loved it!
This was our first experience at a B&B and it was better than we could have ever imagined. From the moment we entered the Camden Maine Stay Inn we were mesmerized. Every inch of the inn was immaculate. The pictures on the website were not deceiving. If anything, the beauty and detail of the rooms could not be captured. As we walked through the inn and through the beautiful landscaped yards, we were in awe. We especially loved the turbo-heated bathrooms and the beds were extremely comfortable - we looked forward to going to bed at night. Of course, we looked forward to the delicious smell of home-cooking that woke us up each morning. Breakfast on the sun porch was relaxing and absolutely delicious; unique meals we couldn't make at home. Bob and Juanita provided excellent service. They were very friendly and answered all of our questions with a smile. When our weekend was over, we did not want to leave. We will rave about the inn and our highly pleasurable experience there.
Delightful grounds, warm and friendly hosts, comfortable and well-equipped room, all in a beautiful historic home. Quite possibly the best B&B we've ever stayed in!
