More about Haven By The Sea
Unbelievably great stay!!
I traveled to Maine on our annual "girl's trip" with my two best friends. We did lots of research and found this B&B. We enjoyed our stay so much. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend this place to everyone.
Best of the Best
Perfect location to visit Kennebunkport/Ogunguit. In the middle of a quiet village with a great beach and a bird preserve, lies the perfection called "Haven by the Sea". The hotel is lovely with seven rooms and magnificent breakfasts. The owners are the best. The cocktail hours are legendery. A MUST
The Best B&B we've every been to
My husband and I planned our annual vacation the week of 4th of July and arrived quite early to the B&B, but we're greeted by Susan and John with a warm welcome and were told our room was available if we would like to settle in. We knew from the minute we arrived that our stay was going to be just fabulous, and it was. We felt right at home and were very comfortable. Their place is absolutely exquisite and meticulous. I am a complete neat "freak" and this place was perfect. My husband John and I absolutely loved the "happy hour" that they provided enjoying wonderful drinks, making friends, and having many laughs. We wished those "happy hours" never ended! The morning breakfast was fabulous also. The location is perfect, a little off the beaten path, but a stones throw to the ocean. We plan on coming back every year from here on in! Lauren and John from Worcester, MA
Fabulous place to get away
Haven by the Sea is the perfect place to get away for a weekend or longer. The amenities are top-notch, the hospitality is outstanding. Each year we stay for our anniversary and we enjoy the "happy hour" beverages with John at the helm. The breakfasts are incredible with Susan cooking up an amazing meal.
Haven by the Sea is a must for those that want to be pampered in the most perfect locale, Wells, ME. This year will be our 3rd year staying for our anniversary.
Not What Others Have Reported!
This renovated church is in a nice spot but that is where the good ends. There are NO water views. The owners frequent with their local friends and truly ignored the paying guests to the point you felt you were intruding on them. They do not allow you to stay in the "public space" after 9pm and as far as happy hour goes don't plan on it as stated on their site it doesn't take place every afternoon. The owners had a very unpleasant attitude when asked for extra towels or info. on local dining. I was amazed at some of the language that the innkeepers used and thought was acceptable. Innkeepers also do not respect the "do not disturb on the door".
For the amount of wonderful inns in New England don't waste your time.
We just got back from a wonderful five days at Haven By The Sea and it was more than we could have hoped for! The Inn is situated in a nice quiet residential area of Wells Beach; ambiance of the Inn and genuine warmth of the Innkeepers truly make this a special "find". Our late evenings were spent by the fireplace in the study - one of three common areas that are so comfortable and beautifully decorated.
Our guestroom was spotless and the chamber person made sure we had everything we needed. The innkeepers, John and Susan, made our stay so enjoyable - they even made dining suggestions and then acutally made the reservations for us each night of our stay! If you like privacy you have it - if you like interaction with other guests they have a wonderful happy hour and made each guest feel like we were old
friends. We have already made reservations for next year and can't wait to return.
Love the Haven
My wife and I have been visiting the Haven for 8 years. We have nothing but positive comments on all of our stays. The hospitality displayed by hosts John and Susan Jarvis is above and beyond anything we have experienced at other Inns. 5 years ago my daughter was married at the Inn. At that time we lived in upstate NY, approximately five hours from Wells, therefore, we relied on our hosts to work with local service providers for all of the wedding arrangements. Everything was beautifully done and every guest had nothing but positive comments about the ceremony. We now reside in Little River, SC. On our trip to upstate, NY to visit family this summer we made sure that we made arrangements to stay with our extended family at the Haven for a couple of nights during our trip. We intend to do so as long as John and Susan own the business. We have never felt so welcome anywhere else in our travels. The close friendship developed between us over the years is something that we truly cherish.

Noisier Than A Truck Full Of Ballbearings Smashing Into A Symbol Factory
The whole idea of staying in a church seemed very quaint and relaxing....however nothing could be further from the truth. I spoke to the inkeeper of needing a quiet spot and was directed to choosing a sutie. Our "suite" was located on the first floor just outside of the lobby complete with a common entertainment area directly outside our door. We awoke the following morning to the sound of groups of guests congregating in that very same common area. Sound proofing is desparately needed regarding the original wooden floorboards which announce a guest's presence with every step. The bath water was cold after one shower and the bathrobes although displayed beautifully in an old clock were rough as 30 grit sandpaper. We left after one night and have no plans to return. Much ado about nothing.....
From the moment we arrive proclaiming "we're home" the feeling of welcome and friendliness abounds from owners John and Susan Jarvis and other guests as we mingle at breakfast or just chat on the outdoor deck , overlooking the marsh in the afternoon , with tea or a cocktail. The rooms are airy and super clean with air conditioning when needed. Common areas are quiet places to read and rest or centers of conversations with other guests. We have been coming to the Inn for 10 years believing that when you find something you like and people you like--stick with it. We found what we like. After superb and wonderful breakfasts provided by Susan and served by John , always with a bit of ' wake up comedy ' , a walk on the beach is in order to soak up what the ocean has to offer. This victorian Inn is a well kept secret in southern Maine. The owners kindness and efforts to make your stay an experience to remember results in a desire to repeat it. A visit will contain good conversations with people from all over the US and other countries , a great breakfast, pleasant and personable owners who can't do enough for you. The Inn is immaculate and the victorian motif soon becomes a topic of conversation. There is much good to say about Haven By The Sea and it's owners; negatives?---We have none!! Tom & Vera Glenn
Didn't stay here, just checked it out in person 1 day
We stopped in at this place while visiting Wells for a day, and we were greeted at the door by Inkeeper John. We mentioned we were just "passing through" Wells on our way back to Ma, so John gave us a "cheat sheet tour" of the place.
1st of all, in order to SEE the ocean from thier Inn, you need to either stand in the MIDDLE of thier STREET and look DOWN the street to the east to see the ocean, or walk down to the end of the street and you're there.
The views outside the rooms show the immediate NEIGHBORHOOD, NOT the ocean. The exterior/interior looked fine.
John fits the bill of being snobbish. Would I ever stay here, a strong possibility of a definite NO as I prefer an Innkeeper who gives you the feeling you've known them all your lives, John missed the mark by a long country mile. We never met his wife. We were there for a good 1/2 hr, unimpressed.
