I'm moving to Annapolis for a year and want to rent a nice apartment somewhere in a neighborhood good for walking. If there are lots of trails nearby that would be great. Any recommendations for neighborhoods or specific apartments? Thanks!
HI!
There is a rental community right across from Truxon Park that is nice. It's right on the water and it's right across from a community pool, tennis courts, then around the corner are basket ball courts and base ball fields. I don't know if there are trails through there, but it is across the street from a nice residential section that is large enough to give you a good walk. There is also Quiet Waters Park that is very close (within biking distance) that has lots of trails for you and is free to foot traffic. Cars are $5 each entry or $25 for the year-no matter how many people are in them.
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions about the area, feel free to email me.

While in the city, take a walk along the harbor of Annapolis where there are many things to see and do.
There is even a plaque where the African slave, Kunta Kinte--of Alex Haley's 'Roots' fame--set foot on U S soil.
When I visited, there was only a plaque to see. Now there is the lovely Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Memorial at the City Dock, where you can see the Alex Haley sculpture group, Compass Rose, and Story Wall. This memorial represents another side of our U.S. history and anyone who doesn't know about Kunta Kinte or Alex Haley, could read their historical story in "Roots" or if you're too lazy to read it, watch the movie on video.
Here you see a view of the harbor from the US Naval Academy across the Severn River.
I love the murky waters of an overcast day.
This is a view of the inside of the U.S. Naval Chapel at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. It is a church that looks very much like a Catholic Chapel, but worship services for all the religious faiths are held here, coordinated by a schedule. Throughout Annapolis there are many Christian churches, mostly Methodist, a Synagogue as well as other non-Christian places of worship.
However, for the average tourist there are places such as:
Saint Anne's Episcopal Church, officially established in 1692 played a part in the early days of instituting religious freedoms and can be seen on the tour map as a symbolic positioning of seperation of Church and State.
Saint John's College which was chartered in 1784 and William Paca, Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Thomas Stone, and Samuel Chase, four of the College's founders also signed the Declaration of Independence.
Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, built in the gothic style between the yeas of 1858 and 1860, and is stituated in front of the Charles Carroll House, a man who helped to obtain personal, political and religious freedom for all citizens. He was the only Catholic to sign the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
All of these places are active today in pursuing their freedom of religion but even if religion is not your thing, the architecture and history alone are worth seeing while in Annapolis.
With it's bronzed-dome, the U.S. Naval Chapel on the Academy campus, 101 Cooper Road, is a lovely building. There are not many bronzed-domes in the U.S.A. but this is one to see while in Annapolis and it serves all faiths at various times. The corner stone was set in 1904 and the dedication happened four years later. A tour of this chapel is possible except during weddings, funerals and services.
Beneath it lies the John Paul Jones crypt. In 1913, the remains of John Paul Jones were laid to rest in the crypt and public is welcomed to visit. Check for day and hours.
What is it they say, "There are no atheists in a fox hole?"
Well, that might as well be appropriate for Midshipman too!
This place has a great atmosphere and serves meals, decadent looking desserts and of course, coffee. They have vegan options as well. We only had the coffee while everyone else was eating full meals but the staff did not rush us or makes us feel bad for not spending more money. The place looks like a comfy living room with books all over the place and great art work hanging on the walls. COFFEE!!!
