See the cutest state capitol...
by noahsdad
See the cutest state capitol (no, really!). Don't miss the story about the 17th-century businesswoman who petitioned for the right to vote. This gutsy lady was *way* ahead of her time! See the Paca House for a glimpse into a colonial urban aristocrat's lifestyle. See the charming old port--and remember that this is where Alex Haley traced his ancestor Kunta Kinte's arrival in America. See the campus of St. John's College, which features a 'great books' curriculum. Don't miss the great dome of the Naval Academy chapel.
Weddings at the Academy Chapel
by globetrotter_2006
We were very lucky to see a wedding @ the Academy Chapel. When the newly married couple walks down the stairs, one of the Naval officers will spank the bride with the sword, and yell "Welcome to the Navy Mrs...........".
Sailing out of Annapolis
by Kentbein
I sailed the Chesapeake with five great friends in August 2004. I highly recommend this a s a perfect way to wrap up a beautiful summer season.
We sailed from the Annapolis Landing Marina, a beautiful, well equipped sailing marina for anyone interested in sailing the Bay. It's a wonderful place to charter boats, moor your own sailboat, or dock for services.
A Taste Of History!
by lmkluque about Middleton Tavern
Located on the dock in a building that is more than 250 years old, Middleton Tavern offers more than just a delicious meal. Sidewalk dining is avaliable during summer months, but it was late fall when I arrived and we were seated near a blazing fire place and the 18th century atmosphere was not lost on my historical senses.
After the American Revolution, this tavern became a meeting place for those, such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, who were responsible for laying the ground work for the Constitution of the USA. Originally it was an inn for seafaring men but today it is a popular restaurant and the upper rooms serve as meeting rooms as well as being used for regular diners and seems a bit upgraded.
Even in the "off-season" there is a waiting list, so be prepared but don't miss the opportunity of experiencing a meal here. Everything was good!
There are beef, chicken and pork dishes to choose from, but seafood is the main focus and the variety offered, such as, Oyster Shooters, Steamed Mussels cooked in a wine sauce, Crab Cakes and Lobster, is tempting.
The prices are not budget, but resonable and at Happy Hour, Monday through Friday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, they offer reduce drinks and a bar menu to enjoy.
Storm Brothers Ice Cream Factory
by Ewingjr98
The Storm Brothers Ice Cream Factory is located along the water in Annapolis. They offer about 50 varieties of hard-serve ice cream. I thought the ice cream was a wonderful break on the hot summer day we were in town! They also offer sherbet, sundaes, shakes, and malts.
The store has been at this location on Dock Street for over 28 years.
